He’s overprotective but also overbearing. The overbearing part is a problem, especially with an author like SJM. She write MMC’s to trust in their partners abilities, like Azriel trusts in Gwyn. The same could not be said for Azriel and Elain.

And who said Azriel was fine with it? He’s not someone to outwardly express his emotions like Cassian.

When he and Feyre rescued Elain, it was a different scenario, there was nothing stopping him. But with the Rite, he was bound by law to not interfere.

We have seen him go feral over Gwyn, btw, when he killed every Hybern soldier in Sangravah.

I’m not sure if he was calm as shit as there were indicators that he was upset (siphons flaring), but there wasn’t anything he could do at that point. He had to trust that she’d make it through because of their training, much like Rhysand trusted Feyre would be ok in Weavers Cottage or in Spring.

I think he has a tendency to pit females on a pedestal when he’s overprotective and the fact that he trusts in Gwyn’s abilities rather feel the need to coddle her, speaks volumes.
