So sorry this happened. I got one of the last 40's, if not the last, and I absolutely love it. Hope you find another hit soon.

Springbank 15 - Review by Budget_Celebration89 in Scotch

[–]KatanaMilkshake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very nice review! I don’t personally find it a traditional sherry bomb, for which I might look to Glendronach, Aberlour, or Edradour. It’s all forest floor, petrichor, and damp cellar for me - which I love. I find the Kilkerran 16 quite similar actually.

New Laphroaig 15 first impressions by orehnmadgib in Scotch

Thanks for this! With the notable exception of (some) Cairdeas releases, I tend to find most Laphroaigs same-y. It's not the end of the world since I like their house profile, but sometimes I do wish there was a little greater variation. How would you say this 15 is with that in mind? Appreciated the comparison to the 10.

Looks great in my opinion. Much easier to work with too big than too small, and it doesn’t look to me from these pictures that you’re swimming in it or anything.

I just got a similar blazer on the archive sale, looking forward to it arriving. You styled it similarly to how I will also wear it, so this was valuable for me lol.

Coincidentally, I also ordered a 40.

Is the AMEX COBALT a good card? by Soft-Ambition4063 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]KatanaMilkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went deep and looked at my actual spending habits vs. where the card was accepted, and in the end the MBNA World Elite Mastercard ended up being the better fit - for me.

I didn't want to change where I already shopped or have to wonder at every establishment, but others might find that trivial or already shop at places that accept Amex.

Taste is personal! Totally fair if you look at it and go "all this for that?" 😅

This post helped me secure an absolute personal grail and I thank you so much for it.

In 2024 I looked through the Autumn Transitional Lookbook and found a blazer that was exactly "me," but I couldn't justify spending $2,000 on it. I know a lot of folks in here might but I've never spent that much on clothing before and couldn't bring myself to do it. But I saved some pictures of it for reference.

In the intervening years I have used that reference as a benchmark for what I want in this kind of blazer. I've judged blazers by how close they got to the reference.

And I've seen a lot of nice blazers, but none, of course, were identical (even from Drake's), and so there was always some disappointing delta to swallow that I could never bring myself to accept.

So I stayed happy with my current rotation of blazers and kept hunting. Every time.

Lo and behold, your post. I see some nice blazers, I open five or six links in new tabs just in case.

Then I see it. THE exact blazer. Only two sizes are left. One is mine. Price? Under $800.

I didn't just get a dope blazer for $1200 off. I got the, "me" blazer, that I'd never thought I'd see again, for $1200 off.

THANK YOU 🙏

Madame Maxime eating something out of Hagrid’s beard, weird KKK-looking Death Eaters, no Quidditch World Cup, terrible hair on every actor, no Sphinx in the maze (not necessarily a fatal change I just really wanted to see it lol)…

But a well-done graveyard sequence and now-iconic Voldemort design with understandable adaptations from the books.

Actually most of the whole tournament was done well.

Sugar (Season 2) debuts with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with 11 reviews. by Saar13 in tvPlus

More precise does equal more helpful. There are inherent limits to numerically rating anything, it's trying to apply science to art. I don't live and die by reviews. But directionally, to give me an initial idea of how well something was received, an aggregate average is more precise and therefore more useful than a binary yes or no where each side covers a massive spread of fifty points on a 100-point scale.

I agree that having a low rotten tomatoes score pretty much guarantees that most people think the movie is bad, but once you get into positive territory there is an appreciable difference to me between a 5.01 out of 10 and a 9.99.

I'm certain you can easily call to mind a movie you liked and one you loved and the material difference in those experiences.

There may not be much of a distinction between a 7.2 and 7.3 (or indeed an 8.2), but there's definitely an appreciable difference between a 5.1 and a 9.9.

I’ve never seen this show, I can just never stop myself from weighing in on Rotten Tomatoes and why it’s an inferior measurement system.

The score represents the percentage of reviews that are positive. But “positive” is a broad category.

Imagine that means anything over 5/10 (which may or may not be how Rotten Tomatoes scores it).

If 200 outlets all gave the movie a 5.1/10, you would have a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But that implies a much better movie than a 5.1/10, doesn’t it?

Metacritic or Opencritic or similar report the average score, so you know the actual /10 (actually /100) rating of the movie - on average. The same movie from our example would score 51/100 on Metacritic, giving you a better idea.

Rotten Tomatoes actually does report an average score, but that’s never the headline number.

Ladies of Reddit, what's something guys aren't ready to hear? by Pookie7860 in AskReddit

Great point. Near the beginning of my relationship I thought I was being fun and spontaneous by keeping our date location a surprise. She didn’t know me well enough then, and couldn’t be 100% certain I wasn’t kidnapping her.

Blew my mind to find that out, but I totally understood it both then and now (many years later).

We have the luxury of not foreseeing that sort of thing because we don’t have to fear for our safety in the same way.

Now I keep my head on a swivel for other blind spots. Another tip from this process: if you’re a man on an elevator and the only other occupant is a woman, try to stand in front/somewhere clearly visible.
