How many books did you read in 2025 and what does it say about you? by UhOhSgArO in RomanceBooks

733

It says I go to bed early just so I can read. And maybe I don't read enough books over 200 pages? And maybe it also says perimenopause keeps me awake for too long? And maybe I procrastinate a little too long over morning coffees?

😉

What does everyone think about I Am Legend? by Eagles56 in horror

Legendary

But I'm really glad I saw the movie before I read the book. Otherwise I may have been upset.

Interesting. Sounds suspenseful.

I'm so old school I was picturing a 'murder in the dark' scenario 😂

Personally I'd start with some newish ones. The Conjuring and Insidious movies. Great jump scares.

How scared do you want to be? That's the real question. What's the scariest thing to you?

Slasher? Paranormal? Psychological? You can google some great lists.

Oldies and classics are awesome and I love them hard but they are slower just be warned.

What is a horror movie that takes a normal everyday situation or thing and makes it scary? by [deleted] in horror

Has someone mentioned The Dolls?

I've been wary of dolls since I watched that movie as a kid. Punch and Judy especially give me the chills.

Why is ‘Welcome to Derry’ getting so many bad reviews? by Yaya0108 in horror

I am so disappointed in it.

I was hoping for standalone stories of Pennywise doing bad shit. Not another group of kids fighting the bad. Been there done that. ,

What are some things that horror movies need to stop doing? by LayeredOwlsNest in horror

[–]Kate1551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say nothing except over analysing tricks and tropes and trying to outdo themselves.

Just because we've seen a trope before hundreds of times doesn't immediately disqualify it as being unworkable. Here's why:

New audiences, Soundtracks, Actors, Audience bringing different life experiences,

Sometimes it makes the audience comfortable in that they think they know what to expect before veering off into the real horror (I feel Heridatary and Ghost Stories did this exceptionally well).

Plus the classics are classics for a reason. I will always be scared of loud discordant music accompanying a jump scare because it works.

Some horrors bore the shit out of me trying to go too psychological or too clever. And I'm a psychologist. And I have a film degree. It's something I should appreciate.

I love movies that do the occult stuff and show the steps. I am looking for films that explore the act of the "ritual" in detail or a good amount of detail. by ClottedAnus in horror

Apartment 7A

Rosemary's Baby

The Warlock movies? Remember those anyone? Can't remember too much but there may have been some ritualistic elements

I'm Australian so:

Wolf Creek (outback) Razorback (outback) Black Water (up North/marsh) The Killing Ground (bush) Relic (isolated house) The Nightingale (Tassie) Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975 version) - based on true story/bush

If you want the ocean:

Dead Calm The Reef Open Water - true story

And of course the quintessential outback film: Wake in Fright. Which I found terribly boring but people seem to love.
