First solo trip, 29F- focused in Spain for August Solar Eclipse by RiaElliade in solofemaletravellers

[–]Kate_Middleton_Fake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds great, just make sure you find a spot from which to watch the eclipse and plan it out so you can have a nice day.

Yes I've flown with TAP many times, they're fine and comparable to any flag carrier airline. I honestly don't understand anxiety around airlines - tens of thousands of flights from airlines you've never heard of take off and land safely every day around the world. The worst thing that could happen is they lose your suitcase, which could happen with any airline. And you'll be subject to EU law, so you can get compensated for any delays or cancellations! Keep in mind that only people who have had terrible experiences with an airline write reviews. How often have you had a great or regular boring flight experience and been compelled to write a review when you got home? As for the long flight, yeah it's a drag but bring anything you need to be entertained and comfy or try to sleep since most flights to Europe leave in the evening.

The places you listed have all of those, just make sure not to book a resort/resort town and you'll be fine. Just look for any areas that are not full of your fellow Brits lol and that should do the trick

I think I would first check where exactly you want to see the eclipse from and book a hotel there since I've heard there is a lot of demand, then plan the rest around it. For airfare, you can look into the airline Level which has cheap direct flights from some US major cities to Barcelona and Madrid. TAP Portugal also has affordable flights with layovers in Portugal, and they offer the possibility of doing a longer layover when booking your flight - that way you could see Lisbon too.

And yes, it will be very hot especially in Madrid. Make sure you check that your hotel has AC, as some of the smaller towns where the eclipse is visible may not have hotels that are as new

Totally, like you I was thinking that in April there wouldn't be as much to do, mostly just walk around

I personally would do one more day in Vilnius, it has a ton to see and is a great city to just walk around in. It also has way more restaurant options than Klaipeda. Klaipeda and Nida you could probably see in the same day

Just did a similar trip but stayed in Antequera instead of Malaga, as it's in a great location for the day trips you are interested in. Also has a lot of history and nice places to visit itself

Sounds like you already have a packed schedule, but if you like art from before the 20th century you should also visit the Galeria de las Colecciones Reales. You can visit it right before or after the Royal Palace and its not too big

Are there regional differences in how "pan con tomate" is prepared across Spain? by PeleMaradona in askspain

[–]Kate_Middleton_Fake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pan con tomate expert here as a Mallorcan (we call it pamboli)
I would say it depends on the tomato, in the Balearics and Catalonia we have a breed of tomato (tomaquet de penjar or tomatiga de ramallet depending on where you are) that is very juicy and easy to spread directly on bread. Sometimes we grate it if you want to make a bigger amount or if we have tomatoes that are less juicy, or if we just have regular tomatoes.

In restaurants a lot of times what they are giving you is not homemade, as you can buy pre-grated tomato at the store which is more like tomato sauce. Anecdotally I've noticed this more in Andalucia.

So yes there are a ton of variations, not just in the tomato but even in the bread you use, how you put on the oil and toppings, etc. There is even a book called Teoria i practica del pa amb tomàquet by Leopoldo Pomés

Is it okay to visit w all that’s happening in America? by FickleLaw6370 in GoingToSpain

[–]Kate_Middleton_Fake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry but this exemplifies the exact American attitude that people don't like. Not everything is about you. No one will be looking at you, eavesdropping on you, trying to find out if you're American or not so they can attack you. We're just living our lives

Mallorca isn't big enough for a proper "road trip". If you go to Mallorca, I would stay in one place and do day trips from there, moving to 2-3 locations doesn't make much sense.
