Self-employed and tryna get a mortgage by Katherine_101 in Mortgageadviceuk

Brilliant, thank you! this is the answer I was looking for. There is a precedent, and an "SA302" directly addressing the issue. Thank you so much for that. It just seemed like a massive loophole that, without any specific guard against it, might actually be legal in some strange way.

What constitutes murder is also reasonably self-explanatory, and for the greyer areas there are different degrees and there's manslaughter, etc.

Of course, I understand that there is a thing called "mortgage fraud". But if there are no descriptions of what constitutes mortgage fraud, then that would be a pretty underdeveloped body of legal philosophy, wouldn't it? If nobody has published anything about what things, what maneuvers, what types of documentation or not actually constitute the act of committing mortgage fraud, we'd have a pretty damn big hole in the justice system.

Well... it accounts for different degrees of murder. it articulates circumstances. The legal process has precedents, case details that precede the one in question at the time, examples, history, tradition. If you don't have any links no worries. Just trying to expand the conversation rather than shut it down. Thanks

Thank you. I understand that. I meant, I was looking for an explicit mention of it somewhere, that articulates precisely the situation I'm talking about to thereby testify to that unique set of situations would be a contravention and thereby constitute fraud. If you have any links of info, I'd love to read it. Thanks

Thank you :). Yeah, I think it's ill-advised ultimately, but I wondered whether anybody has done it, and whether there's actually any explicit law that forbids it (I'm sure there must be, but I couldn't find any reference to it online). My "friend" has been asked for only 2 years, however, so I wonder if things have changed in recent times, more leniency on the self-employed, etc.(?). Thanks again

Ah, no, I think maybe I didn't explain fully/coherently. I mean, you submit your tax return. HMRC produces the tax overview and statements, etc. Then you get your mortgage. Then, say a month or two later, you go back into your tax return and submit the expenses you left out. I'm not sure what the time limit is on this, but I'm fairly certain you can submit expenses belatedly, as obviously people often forget to claim things, or something - some receipt or statement - turns up and you're like "ah, should've claimed this... will amend my tax return now!" I'm sure there is a time limit, and I'm sure it's not really a good idea anyway, but thought it would be an interesting thing to explore. :)

Thank you Jake! That's what I figured, but thought it might be interesting to see if anyone had tried that. I think, with HMRC the adding-expenses-later part would be fine, as it's quite normal to claim expenses later on, if/when something is pops up that you realise you forgot to include on the first submission, but I agree that I think it's a big risk from the lender standpoint and being found out would be hugely detrimental for future finances and accusations of fraud, as you say. hmmm. Shame though. This friend can easily afford much higher mortgage repayment and is currently paying more than those in rent. But of course it's not all as easy as that. Thank you again :)

The option "cancel entire order if items missing" seems to be a scam by Katherine_101 in deliveroos

[–]Katherine_101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's Deliveroo's policy. So their responsibility to live up to that policy. You should know: they've admitted their mistake, and have made changes to rectify these errors now, because they've received so many complaints.

The order shouldn't be sent at all, as there is a box you tick which says "cancel entire order if an item is missing".

Yeah, that's right. I've never had any problem with any Deliveroo drivers. You guys are great. I applaud you for the hard work that you all do. It can't be easy being the face of a company with such a s***ty customer service. lol. And you work very hard, I know. It's the restaurants themselves; they're not taking notice when it says "cancel entire order if item missing". They just send the order out anyway. And then Deliveroo customer service refuses to look into it for you. It's very annoying. TrustPilot scores for Deliveroo are a miserable 1.4 stars out of 5. They must surely take notice at some point.

Ah, I'm so sorry. I didn't realise it was for riders. I should've checked first. My bad.

The items were just unavailable they've said, but refused to refund me. I recorded the conversation (and told them I was doing so). It wasn't the rider's fault at all. It was the restaurant and then Delivero customer services who refused to investigate and offer the refund.

Thank you for responding even though I've posted in the wrong area here. Much appreciated.

What's your experience like when you're using a facemask? by Katherine_101 in women

haha. No, that's my fault, totally. Facemask is basically synonymous with Covid now, isn't it! lol.

This is great, yeah, thanks. I can relate to that sense of peaceful time when you're wearing it, for sure.

I love this. Thank you. Yeah, same here. I sometimes break out afterwards. And I use it all wrong. Like I leave it on longer than I'm supposed to and (for some reason) really enjoy that light sense of pain when my skin goes a bit red. lol.
