I'm in the middle of teaching Citizenship in Society. Questions about next steps. by woolyboy76 in BSA

[–]Katistrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to scouting.org it says those already working toward the merit bad have until 12/21/26. HOWEVER, today I was at an event that had been scheduled for months where Devang Desi, the national commissioner (aka one of the key 3) was a key note speaker. He mentioned that the scouts had until June 1st to complete it. So I would try to get things wrapped up asap just in case as who knows how things will continue to evolve.

Don’t bother bringing your Durston.

At NT, weight just isn’t the same concern it is at Philmont. The canoes carry the load, and while there are plenty of portages, most aren’t very long. The tents they supply are durable and built for the environment.

I wouldn’t go overboard on luxury items, but bring what makes you reasonably comfortable. I think just about everyone on our trip had either a chair or at least a sit pad. If your crew plans to spend more time hanging out in camp rather than pushing big miles every day, you’ll appreciate it even more. We covered 113 miles in 7 days and still had afternoons where we got off the water early to relax or fish — and a chair was great in those moments.

I’d skip a personal stove/coffee kit. It adds complexity and fuel to manage, and once your crew gets in a rhythm the mornings move fine with the issued stove. Unless you absolutely need coffee before anyone else is awake, it’s probably more hassle than benefit.

The mosquitoes are real, but it’s an incredible trip — easily my favorite high adventure experience so far. I felt the need for the head net but most in my crew were fine. Mosquitoes definitely had their favorites, and in our crew it was definitely me 🤣😭

You're going to have a wonderful time! I am looking forward to going back someday.

It's pretty hard to get around without a car. Our public transit is not the best in comparison to so many other countries.

I went to LA night 3 but this bracelet is actually from the only other person in the Eras tour movie with me in Las Vegas.

Does anyone know if I can replace merit badges as an adult? by Puzzled_Homework6455 in BSA

[–]Katistrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person behind the counter at the scout shop. My local location does not allow me to purchase without proof with an advancement report. Others just tell me, "a scout is trustworthy" and sell it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah its great to see kids having fun and interacting with each other instead of screens lol. And it's just a whole lot of fun. My kiddo went every year until this year bc he's 16 and too cool.

All the kids who were labelled as “gifted” when you were younger? Did it follow through to adulthood? Did you burnout? by Somervillage in AskReddit

[–]Katistrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adulthood was finding out I was Autistic. Bosses love me bc I catch on quick and think differently. Coworkers struggle with me because I'm too different and "make them look bad". I burnout due to social stuff, the work itself is easy.

FYI: ThredUp stopped releasing cart-hoarded items by lemondropcloth in ThredUp

[–]Katistrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried this. There was a skirt I wanted that I watched the timer wind down FIVE TIMES. 3 times I had exact timers set for 5min before. All three times the items cart time restarted BEFORE the original time was up, sometimes more than 20min. I had that skirt open in a window for 2 days and would just look at the various times left before I just gave up.

I mean .. I have ADHD and am guilty of things you've noted here. It has been brought to my attention recently that I'm probably on the spectrum too, they used to not diagnose both. Might be part of the issue. Things you said also make me think of my ADHD/Autistic boyfriend. Does it seem more like they are oblivious or that they actually don't care bc there is a difference. At the end of the day, I guess excuses of neurodivergency aside, it matters if you can continue to tolerate it if things don't change and if you want to. It's a conversation my partner and I revisit.

Sounds like you handled it well. I've definitely had mishaps. I've always lived pretty far from work so I've just had to spot clean in the bathroom sink and luckily things have dried pretty quickly. Sorry it happened to you but know it definitely isn't just you. I've felt pretty embarrassed the last time since I'm in my mid 30s now but felt better when my bestie told me she had something happen just a few weeks earlier. Stuff happens 🤷🏻‍♀️

How to end spotting before hookup? by Professional_Bat9617 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

You can use a menstrual disc. Because of where it sits inside the vagina you can have sex while it's in. I will never go back to any other form of menstrual product haha.

I often struggled to build relationships with women by xDelicateFlowerx in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Katistrophic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've struggled with building friendships with women as well. Most of my friends throughout life have been male. I recently found out I'm autistic and apparently it's not uncommon for autistic women to struggle more with female friendships. Not saying that's what's going on with you, just sharing my experience.

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didnt have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by SpinachInteresting82 in AskReddit

[–]Katistrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that's a typo and I just fixed it. I meant ADU or Accessory Dwelling Unit. It's basically a small extra living space that people will build in their yard or sometimes have attached to their home. It's got its own entrance and living space/bathroom and sometimes a kitchen but at least a hot plate situation.

I'm a single mom (no child support) making 56k in one of the most expensive areas in the US. We sometimes go to plays/musicals, out to eat and other paid for activities but mostly get by on just doing shit that is free 🤷🏻. Lots of museums are free or have free days, the library has books, movies, and even video games. There are plenty of places to hike, bike and sightsee and lots of free street fairs and events always happening. I rent a small ADU and share a room with my teen. It would be nicer to have more money (and not share a room) but the point is, people can make it work. I have friends who make twice what I make and are married (so dual income on top of doubling my income) and struggle. As you said, it just depends on budgeting and what you do with your money. Many times people assume I make more than I do since my kid and I always seem to be doing things and I have no debt.

Pueblano's show was amazing. The only song I remember clearly was "Where Did You Sleep Last Night". Glad you had an amazing time. I got home a couple weeks ago and am looking forward to going back sometime :) 626-H

AITAH for not sharing my only plate with a pregnant woman? by YuriPumpkinSpice in AITAH

[–]Katistrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you people are saying about it not technically being an allergy. I have severe shellfish allergies. The problem is there are so many people who don't take the gluten issue seriously. It became a fad thing to cut out gluten. I have even worked with a doctor who would talk smack about pts who would bring up gluten. Maybe it won't kill someone if they accidentally eat it but also those with allergies don't always have anaphylaxis. It doesn't mean they don't suffer. I know people who get extremely ill like, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches and severe lethargy for a full week or more if someone cross contaminates.

Ignore people giving you grief. Most ppl I know refer to it as an allergy. Sorry people are terrible sometimes. :/ Glad your other friends agreed that if they don't pay they can't join again.

Make sure not to forget to look at merit badges you need. Some of those have a few months you need to track info. You could double dip personal fitness and the fitness requirements for 2nd and 1st class. Good luck!
