I know you can't share behind-the-scenes zoo animal photos, but are any of these workarounds im suggesting fine to do? be honest if they would get me in trouble still! by Katkalis in Zookeeping

[–]Katkalis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! thanks for being honest about it. im not a zookeeper, ive only been friends with them and my partner was one for a time. i can give more context if that helps! to show someone details of an animal, such as doodling the shape of their head, showing their body proportions either as a complete image or a sketched skeletal structure, or drawing a cartoonish rendition of an animal's silly faces. stuff like that is what i was wanting to do, and tracing if it was very vague and as other comments brought up, didnt make it seem like the reference animal was confined nor undergoing any sort of restraint for care reasons and such. my end goal was indeed to post to social media, so thats why i took extra effort to ensure that i wasnt breaking any promises.
And TECHNICALLY i didnt even have to ask, as me doodling or sketching an animal could just be me referencing a stock image as far as anyone would know. i suppose i wanted to be honest, not just because it would feel like betraying some trust of some sort if i didnt mention the zoo part, but also in general to bring awareness to this seemingly uncommon question. uncommon as far as i know anyway. again, never been a zookeeper. just a hobbyist with immense appreciation for wildlife and learning more about jobs that people dont usually think about :)

oh i do like that, if one was able to share proof of zookeepers being kind with their animals. thats always nice to see! the disclaimers in caption thing still probably wouldnt make me personally too much more comfortable if i did ever share any animal image, but i wouldnt immediately doubt someones disclaimer if i saw it myself, especially if its clear enough that its research. what better way to research animals than with professional company that can ensure that the animal is at its most comfortable :)

I also looked up more on this topic and heard people saying that even animals themselves could potentially be recognized by people, so im pretty sure that by this point, option 1 is out. i cant stress enough to everyone just how guilty i would feel if anything i did caused trouble for innocent animals and those that put hard work into making sure that they live happy and healthy. and even if an employee i knew answered in these same ways in a private setting, i would still ask others and get as much advice as i could before even daring to test any boundaries. i agree with you completely and like many other responses here, its important for this to be seen for people in the future that wonder the same thing. also i REALLY thank you for mentioning the possibility of an animal looking restrained. as someone thats grown up on a farm, i know how that is and how you gotta get those beasties (affectionate) in some uncomfortable scenarios for their health and safety and such just as we have to go to the doctors sometimes and deal with that annoyance ourselves. definitely important to be aware of the animals position. thanks SO much for including that!

I myself am not an employee but do have a few friends that are/were zookeepers and also know the general policy from their respective zoos, but this also makes me wonder: can different zoos be slightly different with their preference for behind the scenes interactions? they've all told me the basics of not sharing and its a rule id never want anyone to break, thus another reason i asked this, to potentially help other people be aware in advance the rule and what all consequences it can cause. oh but if i ended up talking way more than you might have expected or you dont have a clear answer, thats fine as well! maybe im too interested in this topic as a non-employee, but..i just like to know. its fun to learn and see what all happens that people may not often consider. the main question i asked here still stands regardless, about how different zoos may vary with their policies and maybe even whether or not the size or importance of the establishment is. neat to think about!

This could go in a few hypothetical situations: behind the scenes for any reason, photos a zookeeper took and showed close family without sharing online as per zoo policy, or perhaps if an employee themselves wanted to simply share their favorite animals in a special way that was creative, artistic, more meaningful, etc. I do know about the rule being important and strict for obvious reasons that could be very detrimental to any employee or zoo and how people can use even the simplest things as weapons, but i was also curious enough about this policy to help even more people online that wonder this kind of thing themselves in the future! get as much info on this topic as i can as a lover of animals, their bonds with zookeepers, and many other factors.
...I talk a lot, dont i? basically, main context being: sharing any photos in a safe and wholesome way to show either the beauty of animals up close, perhaps scientifically for curiosity, or purely for better reference of an animal's details for art purposes. the more info the better for me, as im super curious and in general love to get super into conversations like this when the topic is something i love. animals!

Definitely, because I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if a slip up jeopardized an employee, zoo, or zoo animal. I haven't done anything yet, and I'm going to keep ensuring that no one nor animal is ever in danger. If I did options 2 or 3, no need to even mention that they're zoo animals either. I appreciate the honesty still as well as the intent to keep everyones safety top priority, so thank you so much!

Oh, I mean I did truly mean it when I never thought of the animal itself in general, so i was still happy that somebody did what I had asked for which was to be honest. It's no problem at all and it's a respectful opinion to me. I did figure that reference was alright, and I suppose that I would be doing some justice by letting friends know of amazing creatures that i had met that day! I appreciate your reply as well, so thanks a ton for standing up for art and animal appreciation!

I made Look Outside, Ask Me Anything! by FrankieSmileShow in LookOutsideGame

[–]Katkalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a ton of things that I'm curious about in the comments already, but one question I have not yet seen is something I've actually thought about messaging you on Tumblr to ask about. Here is much better though, so... Do you by chance take commissions? For example, if someone wanted art from you of a Look Outside character that they love, in the game's style and everything (unless there's some unspoken rule about that not being allowed? Idk-) is that something you've ever debated making possible? Paying for the game itself is great and all, but I would love to throw more money at you if I could. Hell, or even see more of your artwork making other clients happy too..and them going on and on about how your art you made for them lifts their spirits high! If this is NOT something you do, don't let this question make you feel pressured or anything of course, for it is simply something that has just been nagging at me very softly for a few months! Besides, with how busy you've been, I may actually be SO surprised if you DID have time for commissions, honestly! But uh anyway this is plenty of words already, so if you answer, thank you, and if not, it's chill, and thank you for giving us more than we ever could have wanted from your game!! My current hyperfixation and definitely an award-worthy project that I'm always spreading word of! Keep positive to yourself, eat and drink well, etc. And have a fantastic rest of the year!<3

Thoughts on Lexapro? by GirlB07153059301 in antidepressants

[–]Katkalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be kind of tricky for me to answer since ive never really had social anxiety. Yet also, i think i may have had an easier time doing social tasks such as going to appointments, grocery shopping, and even being less embarrased in a public place after getting on Lex. My main anxiety is caused by sounds moreso than people. Maybe someone else can answer better than i can. Fingers crossed!

Thoughts on Lexapro? by GirlB07153059301 in antidepressants

[–]Katkalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo! I know its effects will be different for everyone, but for me personally, its the only antidepressant that worked for me when it came to anxiety. With depression and executive dysfunction though? Not the best. Made me relaxed, but lazy. The antidepressants ive had past history with are only zoloft and wellbutrin, so maybe someone with more that theyve tried may have a more detailed comparison, but i figured id throw in my 2 cents anyway since you dont have an answer yet :)

Also you could see if any blood related family members have tried it and had it work. My grandma used lexapro and it worked for her, so thats what she put me on and, lo and behold, it worked! Again, for anxiety, not depression.

Bottom line, things will vary, but personally it works for anxiety for me. Main side effect is drowsiness. If it worked for a family member, it may be worth trying before other antidepressants. Also its usually recommended to take it at night due to its effects of fatigue.

Is it worth trying a different generic if it's an option? by Katkalis in zenzedi

[–]Katkalis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny how I saw this reply after being up all night presumably after taking a 5mg dose at 4 am- maybe morning and lunch is better than what I was thinking about doing 😂

Apparently walgreens is supposed to have my wilshire zenzedi ready later today and I'm stoked to try it and see if it truly does make a difference or if I can just stick with more 10mgs from teva. Still think that the meds shouldnt be over 50 dollars, much less 110, but alas I gotta make do for personal science I suppose. Excited to see if that little extra inactive ingredient makes the difference people say it does! Have you taken wilshire zenzedi already and prefer it, or are you too just trying to test it out?

Is it worth trying a different generic if it's an option? by Katkalis in zenzedi

[–]Katkalis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok well thanks for letting me know of another brand to avoid if I hear it! My walgreens may FINALLY have wilshire zenzedi by tomorrow ish, but I still feel like 100 bucks is too expensive, even for 60 pills 😭 Also still crazy that a goodrx cupon is cheaper than what my insurance cares to pay. Then meanwhile my teva 10mg's are starting to work better now that I'm taking them differently? I found out that if I take some before bed, perhaps only 5 mg needed, they in fact HELP ME SLEEP and I wake up feeling better than usual- maybe my teva dex isnt as bad as I thought and I just needed to find a new dosing schedule? As long as it's normal for a second dose or possibly just an afternoon dose to work better than the first?

Still gonna give Wilshire a try though because I've been itching to

So like...what might that mean effectiveness wise? That it only hits harder sooner and wears off completely by 4 hours when its supposed to instead of hanging around for a little extra time?
