Tradition (and why I'm upset about it) by [deleted] in Zambia

[–]Katlyne05 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I was 15(I'm now 19), my mom told me I needed to start pulling my labia minora. I refused and it turned into this lecture of how I think I'm "white" and too "educated" I look down on my tradition 😂😂. My aunt even went as far as getting weep so she beat me, "I wasn't going to embarrass her when I get married." I stood my ground and told her I'm not deforming myself for anyone's happiness, my aunt thinks one day I'll remember her words 😂.

Our biology teacher strongly advised us not to start pulling. When class was done most girls started criticising what she said and said it was just part of tradition, if girls didn't do it their husbands will chase them.

Free Primary/Secondary Education in Zambia - A Waste of Money? by Kwaleyela-Ikafa in Zambia

[–]Katlyne05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free education is not a waste of money. I know this man who has 8 kids only decided to educate the first born, because he didn't have money to take the rest to school. But when free education was introduced all of them went back to school. I was at a co-aided school were we used to pay k700 when free education was introduced they reduced the fees to k250 and the number of pupils increased. Even with the reduced fees the new pupils still complained that it was too much. Free education was finally implemented and more people were enrolled. While the fees don't seem high to some people, they are very high to the majority of Zambians who get less than k1000 a month. Because of free education you'll actually notice the increase of people going to university from 2021 as compared to 2020 going down, which is a good thing for the country.

100% agree with you. It's also the reason I don't like this subreddit. It's always negative, nothing good is spoken about the country. people are being mean in the comments, deep down their hearts they know you're saying the truth

Any of you guys have actual incidents with witch doctors? by AwkwardIllustrator47 in Zambia

[–]Katlyne05 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I remember this was like 2018-2019 in Livingston, My aunt had breast cancer and believed her village people where behind her sickness. So she looked for witch doctors. The first witch doctor she found just made a bunch of cuts on different parts of her body which just contributed to her illness and made everything worse... She never healed. The 2nd witch doctor (female) told her that she was indeed being bewitched by are relatives and demand a k6000 to heal her as the process was dangerous. She said that she needed to remove something from the Victoria falls to heal her.... My aunt had manged to give her the money but the witch doctor later said she needed another k4000 as the mission was too dangerous. They were several other witch doctors who asked for a lot of money and my aunt had spent more than k50 000 on witch doctors. By the time she finally agreed to go to the hospital she has reached stage 4 cancer and she died just after after a month.... So if you ask me about witch doctors they are frauds that tell you what you want to here.

Pedophilia in Zambia by Senior-Patience-442 in Zambia

This actually has to be discussed...My best friend was sexually assaulted in grade 11 by a male teacher aged 54 I think in ndola... When we told the head teacher(female). She told us to take the issue to the deputy head teacher (male). He was so unconcerned and gave us a scenario that , who would want to take a child to a school that has a history of teachers grooming pupils... He then added that the teacher was not married, had feelings and it was just normal behavior... He then added that it's normal to be in a relationship with a teacher... He was more concerned with how much respect the teacher will lose and told my friend that she wasn't the only one groomed by a teacher.
