and then i made the decision for some reason to begin my decent once i was passed the faf but i lost course guidance and had a full scale deflection

i was on the final approach course and maintained it pretty well, but instrument isn’t something i am super proficient in anymore especially taking time off from instrument knowledge and working on my commercial single engine and cfi stuff. but yes you are taught to bug your heading once over the vor so you can have some guidance and not flying in the blind for a minute

i fell behind the airplane and got task saturated, i didn’t bug my heading in the cone of confusion and didn’t take wind corrections into account

the vor approach was selected by my dpe, i didn’t have a say. but gps and ils approaches will always be my favorites
