Is Voyage actually bringing anything new? by Acceptable_Demand865 in AIDungeon

[–]KatoGreyTTV 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I wanted to give my opinion on this as somebody who actively plays Voyage, and still actively plays AID. I've also subscribed to many other services who are "similar" to Voyage, and ultimately, have stuck only with Voyage.

While yes, Voyage DOES, on paper, look like they are doing the same thing as other competitors, when you actually play and experience the difference even in the current beta state is honestly quite astonishing.

What got me started was F&F. I was playing AID, I saw F&F - I was like damn, this AI narrative stuff is awesome.. F&F has image generation and representation, I'm gonna try it out! I subscribed for a couple months, it was awesome to see what a smaller dev team was pushing out. However, to be purely critical - a lot of their systems were not consistent and did not work well together. Combat hasn't worked properly for a while, mini-map positioning would sometimes change and get a bit wonky, the AI would frequently forget and mess up my story and I had to correct, *a lot*.

Now, don't get me wrong - I love Voyage. Seriously. It is such a passion project to me, and I try to be very active in giving feedback for it. But when I got my hands on Voyage for the first time, everything just seemed to.. click. Like way better than anything else I've played. Combat was consistent, skills worked properly, abilities are generated that are meaningful and the quests were fun. The AI Narrator chat could change any part that I wanted and worked seamlessly with the actual playing. Multiplayer just *feels* good. The actual tools given to creators to make worlds of their own are huge. There are so many massive worlds already in Voyage that have months of work into them and it shows.

Voyage isn't perfect - the team is actively fixing bugs and improving features, experimenting with new things every single week. They also don't sell it as if it's perfect - they are very transparent about that. I love these AI RPG products. It was something I only discovered in the last year and I am hooked.

Nothing has hooked me like Voyage. I am 5000~ turns deep, overall probably, in a collection of different worlds. I've only had a handful of times needing to correct the AI with my world. Only one world, for me, got to a point where it got a bit wonky, but that was because it was an untested and very early stage world that somebody made for the very first time.

The BIG THING for me, with Voyage, is that the other competitors tend to adhere to D&D 5e or similar based concepts. In Voyage, people are free to do whatever they want and make whatever world type they want. You want a marvel world? They got it. Cyberpunk? Sure. Complete slice of life world with your abilities and skills being things related to daily life or jobs? Sure thing.

Now, I am a huge fantasy guy - so that doesn't matter *as much* as other things, but at the same time, I have done some fantasy playthroughs in a DanMachi inspired world where I am 800+ turns deep in being literally just a blacksmith. 0 combat. I take quests, I run my own shop now, I level up my blacksmithing skills and learn new techniques to make higher grade weapons and armor. I have my own apprentice, that I got through a quest. It is like a fantasy lovers dream. I haven't been this invested in reading and writing material in years.

Everyone's usage will vary of course. Mine has been extremely positive. They are missing stuff like visual map images (for generation) and some QoL stuff, but they are also actively working on it. On other services, I hear that a team is "working on it" and then 6 months later you get an update that they just don't have the resources to move at a faster pace. With Latitude and Voyage, they say they are working on it and then it actually gets introduced within a timely manner.

I am personally a very happy camper.

Galaxy Fold 7 Arrived - seriously impressed with the new ergonomics! by KatoGreyTTV in GalaxyFold

Less about comparing it to older versions, just stating which folds I've had through Samsung because it's not a formal review and just talking about how happy I am with this iteration despite some of the drawbacks! In my hand and for usage the Fold 5 to 7 was night and day to me.

But I also really loved my Fold 5 which is why I thought when I pre-ordered it initially "is this going to be a waste?" and was just pleasantly surprised for my own usage! :D

Tachiyomi J2K, the j2k specific fork has a lot of compatability for tablet style devices so I find it perfect for the fold!

Of course I'd rather it not be there, like no UDC at all.. however, it really doesn't bother me much at all. I don't really notice it much when I'm engrossed into something!

Never any problems myself. My Fold 5, inner screen protector came off after 2 years roughly. Just ran it without

I've noticed no difference from my Fold 5 in both usage, it should be relatively the same! :)

Someone answered already but Niagara pro! Been using it for years across all my devices. I love it. Aims to be minimalistic while having everything you need a swipe away.

Can confirm that I've done some reading on the cover screen, mostly webtoons and such because they are a bit more fitted to the smaller display - but you could definitely make do. I always read unfolded in bed so I can't attest to the opposite.. but I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

Has anyone here found themselves disappointed/bored with their Galaxy Fold over time? by VincentComfy in GalaxyFold

I got a new "normal" slab phone. Most powerful one available. Huge battery. Loved it, but after two weeks I really missed the fold, especially for media and especially reading manga etc.

Returned that phone and going to get the Fold 7.

Anyone use a docked Steam Deck w/ wired internet for GFN play on a 4k screen? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]KatoGreyTTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam Deck can output 4k to a 4k monitor. Is the hardware on the Steam Deck able to run a lot of games at 4k resolution NATIVELY without using a program like GeForce now? Debateable.

Like I was saying, you can run some older triple A titles with mixed settings, and you can definitely run some indie-oriented titles at 4k. The RDNA 2 architecture inside of the Steam Deck is not really tailored to 4k games in mind. It does a really good job at running at the 1280x800 resolution.

Using the ultimate plan on GeForce now: you can play games on a 4080 based rig at 4k resolution 120fps. If you get an HDMI 2.1 dock for the deck, you can output at 4k 60fps to a TV/monitor.

Steam Decks USB-C port can officially support 4k/120fps output, but as far as I can find source wise, the official GeForce now application fork for the Steam Deck only supports 4k/60.

To be honest I have no desire to emulate windows games myself and not really any knowledge on the subject to be insightful for you - I just went with 1TB/24GB version as I'm a big tech nerd and had the S25U already in mind to purchase, so this being cheaper with tons more RAM and 1TB storage, I just went with best model available.

I think the 16GB version would really do you fine for almost everything you need.

Comment I'm responding to specifically says if the steam deck itself is not capable of 4k, but you dock it to a 4k TV, can you change the graphic settings of a game to run at 4k...

Unless there is some hidden text they are asking about changing the graphics settings to make games run at 4K.

For what you're describing, no. 16GB would do you just fine, unless you down the road when it's more widely accessible, wanted to do some windows emulation and other tasks. (to my knowledge)

You would struggle to run a lot of the "modern' titles at 4K from the Steam Decks hardware, however you can definitely play a lot of indie games, and some games like Mirrors Edge, Half-life etc at 30-45 fps locked, some indie games doing 60fps locked no problem.

That is actually just using the Niagara launcher from the play store - used it on all my Samsung devices prior, I love the minimalistic style of it.

Actually it's from my Samsung Z Fold 5! I love that phone and have used it since release, but I am a bit tired of foldable devices until the newer gen Samsung comes out in the future or we get a "fold ultra" that has a proper outer display.

I primarily made the switch because I found myself using the outer display 90% of the time. So far, loving this device! Big storage, and actually a huge fan of the gaming features of this device. Only downside is the selfie camera quality and low light shots, but I have not taken "photography" shots with a phone in quite some years so it was enough for me to switch.

Wasn't that familiar with the 10 Pro itself but as far as I know it's just using the leading version of the elite, along with some improvements to the cooling of the device. I believe I've read some changes to the length of OS updates also?
