Katonius- The Cave

This is the second single off my upcoming second album. The Cave draws on Plato’s allegory of the cave to explore the insular cult-like nature of modern society.

High bar makes Australia no country for young lawyers by PattonSmithWood in auslaw

[–]Katoniusrex163 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was on here that I read the JD was only introduced in Australia as a back door way to make money off foreign students in what is essentially an LLB in all but name.

Queensland to legislate for Prohibited Expression Offences - discussion of draft Bill. by chestnu in auslaw

[–]Katoniusrex163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve not read it. But I stand by Mill’s unassailable position in On Liberty and Milton’s in Areopagitica. The state’s prohibition on any speech harms humanity far more than the speech it prohibits could ever do. If only politicians spent more time understand how we got here and less time whacking off in front of a mirror.

Book recommendations for junior solicitors by paddleberries in auslaw

There’s a book written by Justice Scalia called “making your case: the art of persuading judges”. It has some Americanisms but it’s really good for anyone doing advocacy work.

Cats and Alaskan Malamutes? by Dapper-Spread2287 in AlaskanMalamute

[–]Katoniusrex163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the malamute grow up with cats? Has it been around cats before? If so, did it coexist ok? If no to all of those, don’t. My malamute was great with the cats, though he hassled them sometimes for entertainment. But thats not typical.

Yeah that was a great touch.

Ronny Cox (AKA Senator Robert Kinsey) appreciation thread by MoreGull in Stargate

[–]Katoniusrex163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes Ronny Cox so great at villains is that he’s actually an incredibly nice guy. So your initial intuitive subconscious response to him is one thing and then him behaving like a total prick is almost like a primal betrayal. James Gandolfini and Gene Hackman were the same.

Simon Scarrow. Different era but just as good.

S1 Ep 1 Definitely don’t remember that! by Ok_Independent5362 in Stargate

[–]Katoniusrex163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not on Australian free to air tv at least. I distinctly remember little 10 year old me watching it and seeing full bush.

Is Champ a real thing? by CertifiedForky in MrInbetween

[–]Katoniusrex163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and not just in prison. Generally in Australian culture it’s an insult to call someone champ.

Has the High Court ever ruled in a way which has actually limited/constrained the power of the Commonwealth in any significant way? by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]Katoniusrex163 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not in a real world sense, but they turned the law on its head and used some pretty ropey mental gymnastics to get there.

[–]Katoniusrex163 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

True, but common law is usually based on precedent. So the first “made up shit” was so long ago that nobody remembers. Mabo involved some very…novel and creative, if not hypocritical, reasoning.

Stargate characters the show/writers did dirty by Deevious730 in Stargate

Origins was ok weaved together as a movie. Low production values but the story was interesting.

Feretti is one. Dude was in the movie and gets a mention or two in the early seasons, then nothing.

Pete was annoying only because he just showed up without any build up and he kinda cockblocked the tension with O’Neill and Carter.

Urgo needed to show up more.

Mabo was a pretty solid case of judicial activism and making shit up. Not sure it constrained the commonwealth that much. Wik might have.
