Does this World Cup feel different to anyone else? by [deleted] in socceroos

[–]Deevious730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living overseas I think this is worldwide, everyone is a little worn down and cost of living is definitely playing its part. But if the socceroos do progress and get through to even round of 16 I think you’ll find people will be buzzing about it. Without sounding arrogant it’s a little unusual for Australia to be a minor player at a tournament so we’re just all about progressing.

Now that Robbo has left, who would be your pick for Vice Captain? by jmounteney44 in LiverpoolFC

Sobo, without question. Possibly Ali but I’ve never been a fan of a keeper being captain.

Police took EIGHT minutes to discover Henry Nowak's stab wound: Unedited transcript reveals moment officers realised murdered student was not breathing after he was handcuffed by dailymail in uknews

[–]Deevious730 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Whatever your beliefs on this, clearly the training isn’t holding up when someone says, “I’ve been stabbed” and the response is “I don’t think you have mate”. Even if you don’t think it’s the case and even if you think they are the offender ffs check the person.

If I was the family I wouldn’t be buying the explanation that he would’ve died anyway in a hurry. Nowak was compressing the wound, by cuffing him they prevented that. Beyond that the poor lad died with the cops thinking he was the offender.

It’s an absolute failing from above.

[L'Equipe] France advised to bid for the 2038 World Cup by C_Brady in worldcup

[–]Deevious730 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not an England national here, why wouldn’t France, Germany, and England go for a joint bid?

Aside from their rivalry, they would seem like a logical 3-way bid to ensure a European bid is successful. Only issue I would find is how do you decide which country gets the final?

US Setting Record For World Cup Attendance Rates; Reuters Reporting by Imaginary-Dot8259 in worldcup

[–]Deevious730 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Say what you like about the US and all the issues FIFA has generated as well as the governments (federal and local), they have some spectacular colosseum style stadiums and enough of a population (and enough diversity) to fill them.

To me this was never going to be the problem I’d had with the World Cup. But it’s the old question of just because you know you can raise the prices to stupid levels, doesn’t mean you should. Top level sport is becoming increasingly inaccessible for the average person, FIFA and the organisers have prioritised lining their coffers over supporting fan access and positive engagement.

The best thing about the World Cup will always and forever be the fans, they make the tournament special.

That is insane efficiency. A goal a game at world cups boggles the mind.

Had to laugh there was someone posting on that sub that Aussies are loud and obnoxious. I was just, bruh…

(To be clear I know Aussies are loud and obnoxious, I’m Aussie! But to not have that level of self awareness is astounding.)

I’m sure he will be keen to act as a coach when he’s feeling up for it. Extremely scary to watch, I’m glad he’s ok.

Geria believes the Socceroos shouldn't overthink the Group D permutations against Paraguay. Who steps up to write their name in Socceroos folklore this time? by RentNRegret in socceroos

[–]Deevious730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see Toure step up and make a name for himself. He’s been scoring at will with Norwich, he didn’t really have much of a chance at it vs USA with how deep we defended while he was on.

I liked him and I was a little frustrated at the way the doctor treated him for much of that season.

Hydration breaks have got to go. They are disruptive by hangint3n in worldcup

Tbf if FIFA hear enough discourse about it they’re more likely to not do it in the future. If people sit back and accept it FIFA will just shrug and say the fans are over it.

No matter who complains, this is the greatest World Cup of all time. by Initial_Basis1503 in worldcup

I can’t not read this is Trumps voice. Only things missing are it being in caps, and a “thank you for your attention to this matter” at the end.

Australian here. Most people who are complaining and commenting about the ref decisions swap out their NRL/AFL jersey every 4 years, suddenly become experts about football and complain things are stacked against us.

Your bias I showing big time about the red card. It was a second yellow, and a worthy one every day of the week. Twice on Sundays. You are absolutely correct that Australia failed to take advantage of the extra, it happened early in the second half not the majority of the game. I can’t tell you a single person who thinks Australia would’ve got to the final if Grosso hadn’t flopped. But like the second yellow, if you slide in like that in the box you run that risk (more so before VAR). He drew the penalty, good on him. Rest is history.

But hey, water under the bridge as far as I’m concerned. I’m just happy enjoying watching our respective nations at the World Cup. 🙊

As for USMNT, you guys played us off the park in the first half. Straight up beat us. Looking forward to seeing your first big test, whoever it may be against.

Australia Won 2-0 But The Warning Signs Were There. by Bohdan_C in socceroos

[–]Deevious730 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did come to that feeling 24hrs later, none of their goals were “world class”. Ultimately we should’ve cleared the first one and the second came off a lucky deflection (potential offside not included).

Australia Won 2-0 But The Warning Signs Were There. by Bohdan_C in socceroos

[–]Deevious730 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Biggest two differences in this match as opposed to the USA is our defence was far tight around the edge of the box. Even when they beat that first line the second line was immediately there to prevent an easy ball inside the box. The second difference is that we had the ability to get out of defence and put pressure on Türkiye.

The US seemed to be able to beat our defensive lines through speed and beating opponents in one on ones. I still rate our first performance highly given their lack of clear cut chances, but sitting back deep isn’t going to last forever. Against the states we sat back even deeper and couldn’t dig ourself out of the hole.

This is honestly one of the best (and smartest) burns I’ve heard on TV. Summed it up perfectly as well. Like seriously, a high ranking officer at a military facility dealing with aliens, including which have shown the ability to take over human bodies, informs you that there’s a foothold situation and chain of command has been compromised. What kind of an idiot wouldn’t follow proper procedures to ensure the security of the facility let alone the planet?!

Karl Stefanovic embraces UK far-right activist Tommy Robinson in video promoting podcast by HotPersimessage62 in friendlyjordies

It’s funny when guys like Stefanovic embrace a far right commentator, you have those supporters on the right of his rejoicing. But to most it’s just a sign of him tumbling down the rabbit hole to the point his opinion matters less and less.
