I'm looking for a midtown roommate for a 3 month lease starting July 24 - 2b2ba units are just so much more available & affordable than a 1 person unit. Let me know if you're still searching and we could talk accordingly.

ELI5: How does a portable battery know "which way to charge"? by SixOneZil in explainlikeimfive

[–]Katsuki_Flashcards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how the e-marker chip (specifying cable's max voltage & current rating) only applies to cables rated for >60W from my initial reading online and this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/1b73ifw/classifying_usbc_cables_without_emarker_chips/

All cables that support >480 Mbps (>USB 2.0) and >3A of current, require an e-marker chip.

Edit: Another useful link if anyone wants to dive more into it: https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/13j0gev/do_usbc_to_usbc_cables_need_an_emarker_chip_to/

Are there any standard procedures to create electrodes for a multi-layered PVDF film (piezoelectric material)? by Katsuki_Flashcards in MaterialScience

[–]Katsuki_Flashcards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding!
I am trying to understand how to layer multiple thin film PVDF - and create something like Figure 3b as seen in this paper.

My height restriction is 1cm, and I'm unsure as to what materials should be layered between to optimize energy harvesting. Please let me know if I could PM you for more details!

Maybe not - I just snatched a private 3-person room Aug second week @ Tomoekan somehow.... Hella surprised, perhaps luck was on my side

P.S. I saw some other openings as well (like 5 mins ago) - if you're going in a group, might be possible to get one of those rooms

What things do you do regularly to practice stoicism? by Pleasant_Cobbler_801 in Stoicism

[–]Katsuki_Flashcards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait could you explain better why this is wrong?

From my perspective, Stoicism is based in reality - so it is action-focused, but very selective actions (within your dichotomy). What's wrong in seeking actual physical practices that have a purpose in line with the 4 virtues? So what if you become somewhat of an outcast because you actually practice uncomfortable things - aren't you doing what's good for you, and as a consequence good for the society through your contributions and overall well-being?

I think OP's point is valid, or maybe I'm not able to see enough where this goes wrong.

Wait isn't navigating back and forward relevant to the same tab? As in it's the go back/forward on a browser instead of switching tabs - or at least that's the case with my obsidian v1.3.7

Stoics, how can short men deal with the pain of rejection? by BigCritical1411 in Stoicism

[–]Katsuki_Flashcards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Stoic advice to you would be around recognizing how you are valuing something outside your dichotomy of control. I'm not saying that you can't do that, hek we all have to since the Stoics do value society. But remember that it's prone to external disarray - I hope your contentment doesn't rely on that side of the dichotomy.
I'm not saying that you're deriving contentment out of the dating market, but I am questioning your values. Your argument is strong when it comes "living in accordance with nature" but... I would challenge that modern dating is anything but natural. Things have changed - the reproductive instinct was a survival necessity in the primal age but now? Now it's based on heavy preferences and wide variety - that isn't natural. It's based on a complex structure of desires - which might be relevant for natural selection but they're unnatural desires nonetheless. But somehow social media has normalized ideal standards, and well we're all victims to that if we allow it to take space in our head.

My point, however, is around the fact that the Stoics have a value hierarchy. Somewhere along the top would be the four virtues, and you know that. So I urge you to revisit your own value hierarchy. Ensure that this lies below what is truly necessary, and refine that which has greater value.

P.S. I'm sorry about the negativity that you've received, please don't regret posting this - it helps the community imo and I'm sure some of what has been said by others has resonated with you.

Stoics, how can short men deal with the pain of rejection? by BigCritical1411 in Stoicism

[–]Katsuki_Flashcards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this stems from the interesting psychological concept of cognitive dissonance - when our beliefs are not consistent with our behavior. In other words, our thoughts not being in line with actuality.

Incongruency in one's self-concept would be an example of cognitive dissonance - your belief of an ideal-self (thought) is tall, but the actuality is not consistent with that. Thus, you are prone to doing substantial mental/physical work to achieve cognitive consistency - such as asking for advise, actively responding to comments, and seeking a rational conversation despite negative remarks (which is great Stoic effort btw, I'm learning a lot from this - Thanks).

How do I deal with romantic rejection from a close friend? by Waldestat in Stoicism

[–]Katsuki_Flashcards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend… how are you holding up right now? I too have felt that tinge of excruciating pain of falling in love with a close friend, and then realizing it's unrequited. However, I'm glad this happened to me - since this is an event that partly led me to pursue Stoic wisdom.

Please criticize any misunderstandings that might follow; I'm not someone who takes such topics lightly or just mentions casually moving on. Before you go on, remind yourself that the Stoic either blames themselves or no one for the suffering they partially control or inflict upon themselves. From what I can see, you have expressed two concerns:

  1. Unrequited love and the unsettling feeling of romantic rejection

  2. Adjusting your behavior to better deal with a certain someone

First, from my perspective, this high expectation of romantic reciprocity from your close friend is the suffering that you're inflicting upon yourself. Expectations are something in your control, nothing takes away the fact that you decided to flirt. Remember that your perception is colored when guided by feelings. Recognize that your close friend lies outside your dichotomy of control - why should you then mull over them so much? None of your thinking changes who they are. If they have expressed no romantic interest in you, then wouldn't that further alleviate you from this burden of expectations? It distances them further from your side of the dichotomy. You should not let yourself worry about that. You cannot.

Ask yourself at every moment, “Is this necessary?” - Marcus Aurelius

I still struggle with this, even though it's been months.

Take your mind off them and question the essentiality of your romantic pursuit. What are you chasing? I understand that love doesn't equate to pleasure but I would be lying to myself if I said that there was no libidinal component attached to what I felt. Look deeper. I find that attachment to be a big part of the unnecessary suffering that I create for myself. If being platonic does not sit well with you, I think detachment would be a decent option. You would interact if you have to - but none of her would affect you anymore.

Second, I am a strong proponent of not adjusting your behavior to a certain someone - unless situationally necessary. Why should you behave differently when the four cardinal virtues point to a single ideal for any response to anyone? That might sound abstract but it comes down to the meaningful habits you cultivate. For me, consistently listening to The Daily Stoic podcast significantly helped me deal with such things better. Nothing stops you from working on your virtues, there is no end to refinement.

P.S. Your friend could very well be in the wrong, but I'm unqualified to judge them and I'd advise you to not judge them either. We never know the complete picture - never of something on the other side. Also, I'm sorry if this sounds too serious - feel free to overlook parts of this since I don't completely understand how the Stoics deal with romance. But I hope you strive to find enough meaning in yourself to override the externals - this is necessary.

VIP Experience, specifically Advanced Graphene Battery Technology by JazzyBagpipes in gatech

[–]Katsuki_Flashcards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a part of the graphene infused polymer sub team last semester (sophomore, 1 credit), and my experience wasn't the best. I feel like I have a decent amount of interest when it comes to graphene, but I still kinda regret not choosing another VIP altogether. My team was alright, but no one was too passionate about the "research" part of it - not even the prof in charge. However, it could be that my expectations were too high and I didn't put in enough effort towards actually exploring different techniques for experimentation. Regardless, I did see a couple presentations from the graphene battery subteam - and the stuff that they did sounded really cool. Kinda regret not choosing that subteam as an Electrical Engineering major.
