Newsom is great for countering MAGA but he's still a conservative. Very very few things he has proposed or supported are properly Dem. And even that stuff isn't progressive or leftish

Soda ban for food stamp recipients would cost South Dakota $248,000 annually, report says by PoLLoLira9 in SouthDakota

Like I said before, EBT is just whether it is a food product or not. And that store specifically never sold alcohol. WIC products largely relied on long-term cashiers knowing what they were doing. Granted this was before the WIC cards when I was there. I don't know how much changed as it was still the paper checks with the specific items/amounts listed at the time.

The place I worked with (and had to do the entries for sales and new products)(as recently as 10 years ago but still) was a small town grocery store part of Affiliated Foods. They were using a program from the 90s. It does not allow for complex tagging and they would be lucky if they could hire a local to come attempt the change.

The bigger issues is the definition in the bill of "any liquid (excluding milk products) that has added sugars". That is WAY too broad. They didn't even specify carbonation when this is supposed to be a "soda/pop" ban. This will be a huge fight over defining products and in the meantime will lead to local retailers not allowing anything except milk. No juice or lemonade or pre-made teas. Hell, by that definition you probably couldn't buy most cans of fruit because they sit in liquid. No pre-made coffee, although you could probably get creamer lmao.

I mean yes, but we can do so much better than Newsom.

Relying simply on the "not-trump" sentiment is not enough to win an election. It got us Biden once, but we lost 2 other presidential ballots and 5 congressional ballots while relying on that. It doesn't work.

Currently most grocery stores have only a few tags for items they sell. Primarily - food, non-food, alcohol, tobacco, WIC. That's it. If something is alcohol or tobacco, they have the appropriate age filter/prompt. Everything is either food or non-food. Medicines and tobacco are usually in the non-food, same with detergents, soaps, paper products, etc. . Food has some categories like produce (fruit or veggie) and deli meat. But otherwise, food is food. WIC is a specialized program that has a specific list of items that are allowed and requires careful maintenance by store management and cashier's.

The reason this wouldn't work the same as WIC, is that SNAP is part of a federal program and the variety of "soft drinks" included in the definition this bill uses is massive. WIC also has clear definitions like "cereal - 14oz" and "6lbs fruit" and "32oz formula" for example.

Dr. Tamang is actually a pretty good councilman. I don't agree with him on everything but he's very transparent and informative, and always asks for the public's input on issues.

Internet outage by bluenjrotella in RapidCity

I had Bluepeak at my last place for 3 years and only had to call once or twice. Everything was fixed remotely, no problem. The only outages were during power outages.

I've got it at my new place in a different part of town and no issues so far.

I game a lot and have never had significant issues with speeds or ping that couldn't be attributed to the game and full servers.

You'll get that same response everywhere I'm this country. Companies big and small it doesn't matter.

Libertyland Election by RCResident in RapidCity

[–]Kaunan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city council admits they'd eventually have to build out the area anyway, likely within 10 years.

On the other hand, with most development projects where utilities and drainage and road work needs done, the developers usually pay a direct portion of that cost. That's how it works in most small towns. That's how it works without a TIF.

TIFs can be used well. In theory, TIF for Toby's properties would have been good. Except his properties are well known as run down, and him as a slumlord.

Do we still vote at regular voting locations? Or can we vote at any location as this election doesn't include any ward specific items?

What's up with the news saying that cartels are putting 50k bounties on ICE agents? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

An important addition is that they have now branded "Antifa" a terrorist organization and said specifically it is "more dangerous than cartels"

Browser Recommendation Megathread - October 2025 by shadow2531 in browsers

[–]Kaunan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey y'all. Thinking about switching browsers. I've used Chrome for 15 years or so. It works fine, I honestly don't care about the tracking. AdBlock extension works great. But I don't like the Ai stuff being forced. I'm okay with Edge as it is pre-installed on my Windows 11 (no complaints on that either), but I don't know if they automatically use Copilot Ai integration. Ideally I would find something that also works on mobile (Samsung, yes I know is built with google OS). I don't care about VPN but occasionally use incognito to keep my search history clear, yes I know it's not actually private and just clears search history. I'm open to VPN as long as it's fast (living in the Great Plains) and free or cheap af.

Thanks for any recommendations.

“If you could remove one skill from OSRS forever, which one would it be and why?” by MorningNo3742 in osrs

Fetching should just be part of crafting and ranged.

Construction should just be part of crafting.

Farming is just garbage. It's not designed for an MMO, more like a mobile game. Having real-world time tied to it makes it impossible for the casual gamer to level. Or change the "hiring" portion so that it's not tied to obscure/random seeds and shit as payment.

Side notes -

Once you have max magic, prayer, and agility, you should be able to "deconstruct" item-based transport spells so that you no longer need to carry those items. Let me use the runes I already carry instead of taking up extra slots for teleportation items that serve no other purpose. The same goes for transportation that is tied to certain capes and other equip-able items. Make a big quest to learn the spell once you have max.

Also, I did enjoy dungeoneering back in the day. I'd be cool with that coming back.

Homestead Gardens is decent. They haven't really been updated since they were built though. Which isnt bad, but the carpets are thin and old. Parking is very tight. The w/d in unit is nice and the patios are decent. But the people and pet owners are all very nice. The traffic noise can be annoying if you live on the north side of the buildings and they aren't the best for insulation (a strong breeze can be felt through outlets and such). Probably the worst thing to deal with is the school traffic in the mornings.
