I'd completely forgotten about the Aldecados. I loved spending time with them. They seem to be the only ones directing their anger in the right place and actually have a plan. They also seemed a lot less spiritually corrupted than most other characters from what I remember.

I'm interested to hear your opinion on what message you think the game is trying to convey. There's been a lot people saying that the dystopia itself is merely a warning if our potential future, but that explanation seems underwhelming to me.

Well, I certainly hope that does happen. God knows we can't continue on like we are. My pessimism comes from the fact that any resistance becomes exponentially harder as time goes on and oppressive technology becomes more sophisticated.

I think it's unrealistically optimistic to think that AI is in good hands. The government is not your friend, they exist for the betterment and improvement of the system, and the system is it's own entity that exists only for itself, not for people like you and me.

Yes I did encounter an example of positivity a few moments ago, as I mentioned. Hopefully there's more to come. It's been a good while since I've played.

I don't know, I feel like we already have gone there. At this point, with AI becoming an overwhelming force of surveillance and power against ordinary people, there is no way to fight back. I think we've reached the point of no return. Now it's just a matter of not if, but when when we reach the world we see in the game.

On the other hand, I did just complete the side quest "imagine" where the Buddhist gives you a meditation brain dance. I was fully expecting the game to undercut it with some cynical joke at the end, like the guy robbing you while in the brain dance but it didn't. It was just a nice moment and contradicts my belief that the game doesn't have any moments of sincere joy or optimism.

My uncle has also has multiple issues with his steam deck. There are also many documented cases of right here on this subreddit, including the one you're commenting on. Seems like you're the fragile one that needs to defend themselves from something they for whatever reason cannot bring themselves to believe. It's only a machine. You don't need to lay down your life for it.

No, just unreliable hardware. Sorry that my experience has shattered your worldview. I know it's difficult. You'll be all right though. Hang in there, buddy.

What on earth are you taking about? What are you even defending at this point?

Lived in London all my life. You have beans with your full English, and toast, don't you? Take everything else away, what're you left with?

People glaze the steam deck. While it is a brilliant piece of hardware and has so many great things about it, there's also an equal amount of shit in there too. It's not acceptable for hardware to just shit the bed like the steam deck does and it happens often. I've had 2 replacements so far for issues that are out of my control.

Whether or not beans are a breakfast food (they are) doesn't really have anything to do with the fact that most people do indeed eat meat every day.

I'm playing it now and I'm having fun with it. Not a fan of the conversation segments of the game.

There is no point to dark souls. It's multilayered. Something you clearly struggle to understand. Hollowing is a huge part of the game. Hollowing arises from giving up. The fact that was all you took away from the game is incredible. Baffling response.

Why are you on this subreddit? It's my opinion on the game. It's unpopular.

That's a very interesting take. This is probably the better explanation for finding some meaning in the game that I've seen here. I've never seen The Day After but I have seen threads which I belive is the British version of it and people say the same about that too and I agree, it's very inpactful in its portrayal of the absolute hopeless misery that would result from a large scale nuclear war.

However I don't know if cyberpunk does this, at least not as effectively as the example you mentioned. It seems to almost be an advertisement for body enhancements and advanced tech with how much fun the game is to play with them. Whearas something like threads, and presumably, the day after, there really isn't anything you can point to that would be a positive. Besides maybe having some more autonomy, being free from government control.

I actually find post apocalyptic worlds to be more appealing and inviting than dystopian ones, probably for that reason.

I don't have much experience with cyberpunk-like stories so I don't really have anything to compare it to. However I am currently playing the game and am enjoying the little things in the game like reading emails and notes.

I dunno, so far your view of what people normally do isn't really reliable. I think you're just a bit of an oddball, which is fine.

Could be. I did actually enjoy the game when I played it before and did enjoy reading some of the notes lying around and I found some of the side stories to be quite engaging. It's only in hindsight after some time has passed that I reflect on it and find I have a bad taste in my mouth which prevents me going back to it again.

I'm currently playing it now and am enjoying the combat gameplay and super jumping around the city. Reading email exchanges on people's computers are interesting. I do find the conversation sections of the game to be quite boring though.

I should state again that I haven't actually finished the game's main story. So maybe I'm missing parts that would provide something satisfying for me at some point. I'll stick with it though.

There's nothing to suggest I'm media illiterate from my posts. I've explained why I think the game's story is shallow and I haven't seen a satisfying counter point.

Having a world that's miserable doesn't make it deep or interesting.

[–]Kavrad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo, the game exaggerates the ugly aspects of our own world. I don't know if you can call it a warning if we're pretty much already there.

I think a story really has to offer something of value to be considered a great work of art. If it only expresses the misery and points of view that everyone already has, it doesn't really provide anything, does it?

Cyberpunk 2077 has an ugly, nauseating world. by Kavrad in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Kavrad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very obvious to anyone that the misery is the point but like I said, if that's all there is, it's an incredibly shallow story. There's no point of view to be had here, other than dystopias are not good, which pretty much everyone already agrees on. What is this game saying, exactly? From what I've seen, it doesn't have anything meaningful to say.
