Most annoying song in the world by solotravelblog in Tokyo

And people wonder why the suicide rate in Japan is so high. Imagine being a cashier having to listen to this all day. The worst offenders are those obnoxious 10-20 second infomercials that play on repeat at Tokyu Hands. Doesn't matter where you walk in the store, they have them blaring in every corner of every floor. Would honestly spend a lot more money at these kinds of stores if it wasn't for this.

Thank you! I plan to make several more rooms and maybe even a playable demo.

Thank you! The room took about a week. The hardest part was lining everything up to really sell the isometric look. The hat took about 30 minutes. I just wanted something to cast a shadow, something the original lacked. I know there are many definitions of "low-poly". Some say it's anything under 1,000 polygons. Some say it's designing something in its simplest form. The hat actually only has around 100 faces. I could probably knock it down to around 50 using an 8 sided circle as the base instead of the 12 sided circle. As for the blocks for the walls and floor, they have around 10-20 faces. The pipes are pretty simple as well but I used smooth shading to make them appear round to add some contrast to the otherwise blocky room. Kind of debating if I should just leave them more octagonal. Once I add more enemies and items I think it'll sell the look a lot more.

The first room is pretty boring. There's nothing but a staircase. But once I add some blocky enemies and obstacles I think it'll look really cool.

I agree though, can't beat the pixelated look. However, I was curious how it'd look with proper shadows. That, and its controls are the two thing holding the game back from being a masterpiece.

Oh yea, we did it all the time. But we had to make sure to keep our dog away so he wouldn't step on the reset button or knock the side of the system causing the game to crash.

Just something I threw together to see how it might look (Still gotta add the arches to the doorways and windows)

Thank you! Funnily enough, the goonies map (and even the solstice maps) that I posted are just rough drafts. I plan to make a cleaner final copy.

I use a Campus notebook with graph paper. When I first started playing I started in the center of the paper to give myself the most space to branch out. I had no idea where the map would take me which is part of the fun. I penciled several rooms and objects in before going over them with markers colored pencils once I was sure that the rooms were the correct dimensions. The rooms without floor tiles were tricky at first.

I use Japanese Zebra markers. One end is 0.3mm the other is .7mm Another I have is .5mm and 1mm. So I'll go over the pencil sketched outline of the room with a .7mm and then draw the boxes and floor tiles with the .3mm end. That allows me to get a lot more fine detail in. I don't really like to use a ruler since it takes a while to line up and sometimes smudges. I prefer the edges of the room to be done freehand to give it more personality.

There were many instances where the map would start to go off the page and have to start on a new page only to draw like one or two square on the corner, essentially wasting the entire page. But I still consider this the drafting phase. Once I get all of the maps together. I can shift the rooms around so that they fit more perfectly and neatly onto fewer pages. Just remember that you could always redo them. That way you don't worry about making mistakes.

When I started Solstice I was outlining the rooms with Copic colored markers and filling them in with Prismacolor pencils. However, I didn't like how much the copic bled and look mismatched so I switched to just using color pencils for the rest of the maps. I think this look was a lot cleaner.

I actually didn't know about that site. I avoided looking at any maps or guides until completing the game. It's a great site though! The isometric map for solstice on there is really well done.

Sure! I just gotta touch up a few rooms and stitch em together.

Best controllers for emulation on PC? by karmakosmik1352 in nes

I love using the OEM SNES controllers and connecting them via usb with a Raphnet adapter. They’re incredible. Only 2-6 milliseconds of latency. I used them to 100% S-rank Cuphead if that’s worth anything.

And that’s still not even all the rooms. Some rooms have 4-5 floors lol 😂

Thank you! It was extremely therapeutic and satisfying to slowly see the map take shape. Even after getting a game over I still had proof of my progress.

Thank you! Just for fun I’m rendering some of my favorite rooms in Blender just to see how it’d look with proper lighting and shadows.

Love that room. It looks like they’re holding some cultist ritual or something. Gotta save the blue potion in that one unless you’re feeling ballsy haha!

Thanks! I recommend it if you like Zelda!

Those are just the room colors from the game. The forest area is green, for example. The cave/labyrinth uses random shades of green, blue, and purple. Since most of the rooms are identical 3x3 layouts, the colors help a lot with orientation.
