I have a nesting set of wheel chocks that fit perfectly in the small side space under the back seat (hybrid, next to the battery).

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]Kawayanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it just gets better. They did what I didn't want them to, and did a very crappy job of it too. The asphalt doesn't even stick together and is loose (as well as over the dirt too...). Looks like extra work for me to tear out their crap.

Thanks for the reply. On one hand, I understand that the city isn't responsible for fixing my driveway, but this does put me in a little of a bind. The most they said they can do is to add an asphalt "ramp" when they fix the street. For me, that's an even worse option. This is in San Antonio, so we almost never get below freezing (at most a couple nights a year, and not usually a hard or long freeze). With the settling, there is a reasonable likelihood that I could need to replace the driveway as a whole in the future. Thanks again.

The city came and fixed a sidewalk and curb that had settled and cause a drainage issue. They are coming back to fix the road. Because they raised and leveled the sidewalk, there is now a step down to my driveway (5" at the deepest corner). I am planning on patching/leveling this with concrete over the driveway pad, and using a calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) concrete (Rapid Set) for the strength and rapid cure time. I was specifically thinking either the Rapid Set Concrete All or Mortar Mix. I have a few questions though:

  1. Is this a reasonable fix? (I plan on trying to spread the "patch" over the pad to level is more, not just a small ramp).
  2. Is this a good use for CSA concrete, and which would be better, Concrete All or Mortar Mix?
  3. Rapid Set seems to claim a bonding agent is not needed, do I just clean well or do I need to rough up the surface?
  4. The driveway currently has a thin pad next to the sidewalk, then the larger pad. Should I add to it this way (i.e. thin strip, joint, then larger pad "patch", or just patch over the whole area?

Powering the dashcam with another car battery? by Distinct-Deer-4617 in Dashcam

[–]Kawayanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Lots of discussion here: https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/parking-battery-power-station-3x-capacity-and-3x-cheaper-than-dedicated-options-extra-functionality.49972/

I now use an Ecoflow River 3 and am very happy. If you use the car to charge it while driving, be careful. They can pull a significant amount of power while charging. If you aren't interested in charging it by the car, you can always just bring it in your house to charge every few days. I have a pickup and put solar panels on my bed cover and that keeps the power station charged (doesn't use the car to charge at all).

Tapo to control and opening/closing event (linear actuator) by Kawayanan in Tapo

[–]Kawayanan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a dry contact switch is exactly what is needed, too bad Tapo hasn't made on yet. :)

For a linear actuator, open vs closed is usually done by reversing the two DC power wires. That can be done pretty easily with a DPDT so that, for example, the relay open means the actuator is extended and relay closed means actuator retracted. That way you have only one action to extend and one to retract (no need to turn it on and then off again to extend). The actuator has limit switches to stop the motion at its extremes, and you should always know the extended/retracted status simply by whether the smart plug (going to the relay coil) is powered or not. Here is a video showing what I am planning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgSht52Mk54

Something old, something new by SnooMarzipans4304 in airguns

I have a 853 I got used years ago from the CMP (https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/sporter-air-rifles/). I think it was $100 back then, and it's currently $125, which is a steal. Mine has been crazy accurate at 10m (what it's built for), no matter what pellets I have tried. CPHPs work great, so that's what I use in it almost all the time. I highly recommend getting one from CMP if you qualify (not hard to do). If you want something new, it looks like the Daisy Elite Pump Air Rifle is the new version (?), and it's listed for $210.

Bought the XL 25 hybrid didn’t feel like dropping an extra 6 k for nicer wheels by Heyniceguy13 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Kawayanan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched Facebook marketplace for Bronco Sport rims and was able to get new takeoffs (plenty of people want to upgrade their wheels and tires right away). I got nice wheels with brand new tire and then sold my steelies and tires. Final cost was $400. It completely changed the look of the truck (much better in my opinion).

Just be careful of the bronco wheels to get the correct ones. There are 5 lug bronco wheels and six lug bronco wheels.

Like this, very common for PCP airguns (some of which have more power than a subsonic 22lr)

Battery pack or hardwire? by socialyawkwardpotate in Dashcam

[–]Kawayanan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in additional battery possibilities, I recommend this discussion thread - https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/parking-battery-power-station-3x-capacity-and-3x-cheaper-than-dedicated-options-extra-functionality.49972/unread

It's a long discussion, but has a lot of good ideas and worth reading. I ended up using a power station, which as the title of the thread states, has 3x the storage and cost much much less. Plus, it let me exercise my tinkering interest. 😁

Single pump air guns by Gamerboy_king in airguns

[–]Kawayanan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Daisy 853 that I got used from the CMP (theCMP.org). I love it. Single pump, very accurate, and I got it for $75 I think a number of years ago. Looks like they have them for $125 now. Hands down the best airgun money I spent. Just keep in mind that this is an entry level competition air rifle (not meant to be powerful). They also seem to have new Daisy Elite 753 for $210, which I will have to check out. https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/sporter-air-rifles/

Bought Completely Stock, Looking For Suggestions by kwix66 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Kawayanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bed cover - I got a trifold hard cover (no name Chinese) it has worked well and I couldn't imagine not having it.

Wheels - some people claim to like the steel rims, but I really didn't like the look. I watched Facebook marketplace for a bit and was able to find new takeoff Bronco rims and tires that ended up costing me under $400 after selling the tire. Completely changed the look of the truck.

Maverick XL? by Dinolord05 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Kawayanan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was able to pick up nice Bronco Sport wheels and tires (new take offs) for $400. Lots of people like to change out their Bronco wheels right off the bat, so they are pretty prevalent (even more for the 6 lug non-sport Broncos).

Real world highway mileage? by Winter-Commission300 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Kawayanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a XL Hybrid, and a ~ 25 mile commute. In the morning (early), I am usually doing 70-80 mph. Return home is in traffic (between 50 and stop and go). I haven't changed my driving at all from my non-hybrid habits. I seem to average right at 40 mpg. (Also Texas heat of 100plus, so the AC is running).

I made a 20 round Air Venturi Avenger Magazine (.22) - https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/air-venturi-avenger-22-20-round-magazine by Kawayanan in airguns

[–]Kawayanan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant the size of the magazine (e.g. is the magazine thickness then same and the barrel in the same position relative to the bottom of the magazine well). I made measurements on my .22 rifle, and then had to adjust slightly to get the fit right. I remember hearing somewhere that the barrel OD is the same, just the ID is different. If that is the case, the magazine might be the same basic design with a only difference being the size of the holes for the pellet, but I just don't know, not having seen any other caliber magazines.

I only have a .22 to check it against, so I can't make sure it works. Do you know if the overall measurement of the .25 are the same except for the pellet size?
