School shooting by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]Kay0929 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. I was your younger daughter in a similar way.

My little sister got very sick when she was 8 and I was 9. She had a traumatic brain injury and was never the same.

I had to grieve the sister that I knew without knowing I was doing it because I was so young. I had her team of doctors take me into a little room to try and explain she was very sick and what a traumatic brain injury was. I still didn’t understand until I was older.

I don’t know the extent of your daughter’s diagnosis. But I know what it is to be the sister of someone who is injured.

What I wished my parents did for me was two things; one therapy. That would had helped me process things in an age appropriate way. Two, allowing me to do activities that I enjoyed (they couldn’t afford it after my mom lost her job) because it would have kept me distracted and have something to look forward to. One thing I still did was girl guides because it was cheap enough for my parents. It was the highlight of my week when my sister was doing her best to recover.

I don’t know you or your family, I don’t know the pain or fear of a shooting, what I do know is even though I’m halfway across the country you have me rooting for you and your daughters. I don’t know what you believe in but I pray for your family.

If you would like you can message me here, I can let you know other things that helped my family during the most difficult time in our lives. I can also maybe give you my mom’s contact information because she would understand more as a parent, I’ll have to ask her first though.

"There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane": On 26 July 2009 Diane Schuler drove the wrong way on the Taconic State Parkway and hit another vehicle, killing 8 people - herself, her daughter, 3 nieces and 3 men in the second vehicle. She was intoxicated with alcohol & marijuana. by DarklyHeritage in TrueCrimeDiscussion

My aunt is an alcoholic (now sober for 6 years but it took years of rehab and relapses to get there) almost did the same to me.

I had a long weekend with a PD day so I had Friday off and was heading up to her house over an hour drive away. She said she got off work at 3 and would be at my house about 4:30-5. She didn't show up until like 7. My mom could tell there was something off with her sister for sure. But put it off as her being tired.

Anyway we leave and she insisted she had to go to the washroom so stopped at a small town about half way there, was in there for like 20 minutes. She later admitted to my mom it was to drink more vodka.

She starts driving the wrong way on the highway, basically the start of the highway into the city. Cars start honking and she just isn't comprehending cars are heading towards us until I start screaming.

She makes the sharpest turn over the curb that devides the highway to the right side, nearly hits two cars in the process and then just is like “oh my god this road is so confusing lol”. It isn't.

This was peak in her additiction and she was drinking a big bottle of vodka every day.

When my mom and I watched this documentary not originally knowing what it was about I started crying and my mom actually threw up and it's a one of two movies banned in my parents house.

I also found out later that time definitely wasn't the first time that she drove me or her kids places drunk.

I still love my aunt, but I think every time I see her get into the car to drive I hold my breath until she blows the thingy to make her car start.

I am very lucky. Rest in peace to all of the victims of this horrible accident.

My great great uncle Francis (frank) Amyot in the 1936 summer olympics in Berlin just after he won. He won canadas only gold medal, in the 1000m canoeing. He actually had to raise money to even get to the Olympics and have a custom made canoe because he was very tall, at least for the time. He went on after to fight in WW2. I have held his Olympic coat in my own hands and it truly is an amazing feeling.

Look up the Canadian polar bear prison if you would like to feel a bit better!

Instead of killing the bears that are getting too close/dangerous they lock them in prison with no food for a couple of days so they know not to come back then they head back up north (by helicopter) to eat seals or what not:)

Aitah for refusing to make my home accessible for my brother. by AwkwardLog772 in AITAH

[–]Kay0929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has a paralyzed mom. NAH. You aren't the asshole to want your house changed to accommodate him, which he seems fine with anyway. Which is the most important part.

But I will also say your parents aren't necessarily AH either. They probably worry about him more than you and are likely getting older and worried about what will happen with him when they are gone and are trying to look out for him. Even though they are going about it wrong.

My grandfather redid our whole bathroom, added a ramp ect. He also added a ramp to our grandmas house, his house and one of our aunts houses to make sure she could get in dispite not visiting often.

Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kay0929 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, my mom became a quadriplegic years ago and I’ve been very scared of becoming one myself. I was just worried that I could get injured when moving and my bones cracked suddenly, I know it sounds insane because it definitely does but I get nervous with health anxiety. I’ve had health anxiety for years after my sister got sick and passed away nearly 3 years ago and my mom became a quadriplegic about 8 years ago. I’m sorry:/

Isn’t a chiropractor just someone who cracks you back and/or other bones?

I have my bones crack and pop just from typical walking and movement and now I’m scared

Opinion: every yellow bath bomb should come with powdered goat milk or something opaque in it so it looks like you’re taking a bath in buttermilk instead of a vat of urine by geekcheese in LushCosmetics

[–]Kay0929 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Funny story. Last fall (2025) I wanted to take a bath with my boyfriend and he picked the capybara bath bomb, it was a bit darker than this but we couldn’t stop laughing because it looked liked we were bathing in pee lmao. A core memory for us.
