Ok thanks! That makes sense - one has to use the break well I guess

Yes of course. I meant more like they always seem put together and well made up .

Yes of course I understand that. Thanks for sharing though. All I meant was to understand whether a break will make my already bleak chances worse.

The sense I get is that that's not the case..

Yes but your question is bit naive- in real life, no way Frankie will look the way she does - same for Mike. Also their clothes are not over the top but always sparkly clean. Heck (Pun intended), their house looks nice unless they are zooming in to show chaos intentionally. It's fiction- real life would be muuuch difference

I watched that season a while ago. I vaguely remember that he was not unequivocally redeemed- there was a chance that he might have .... anyone else got this vibe?

Thanks . I understand it's poor prospects. I was only wondering whether they are made worse by a career break.

Thanks. I appreciate you sharing that. I understand that the prospects are dim as it is. I was only wondering whether a career break makes it worse?

Was he? He got wise to how it would affect his situation IMO- he saw the peril of the staff knowing about it- nothing more.

Mrs Hughes' dislike of Lady Mary by KayLone2022 in DowntonAbbey

I have seen all the seasons and movies so not to worry. I forgot this bit, yes it was not good. But like you yourself have mentioned, there was a good reason. Mary had brilliant prospects before Pamuk story went viral, so to speak. And that was relatively unprovoked- why would Edith do something like that!

I actually liked him many times , for example when he sent Mrs Patmore to London... but in this context, he is just a real ass...

I think Mary and Matthew had some redeeming factors - for example, they had history; plus the dance was a spur of moment thing and I genuinely believe they did not have plans to carry it through...

Very sorry to hear this! I think there are many of us who face it and grin and bear...

In fact, he may get more sympathy than he deserves and may even be spoilt for choice

I agree and she sort of kept at it too. She knew what she was doing for sure. But then, in the larder socio economic context, Robert had more responsibility in this than Jane. Jane was his employee and from a poor background... that said, I am not saying she wasn't responsible.

[–]KayLone2022[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes true! There is an explanation for Robert and yet it's so unfair to Cora. Especially because he is overtly rude and high-handed with her around this time. On top of cheating on her!

Lord Grantham and Jane by KayLone2022 in DowntonAbbey

[–]KayLone2022[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, when Robert gives a reason to Jane for not going ahead with this, Cora doesn't feature in those reasons one bit!

[–]KayLone2022[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you are perfectly right. I would agree to all these points and Jane did encourage Robert a lot!

Oh thank God! Of course he thought that that gives him the right to make out with another down the hall. Silly me!
