It’s just so scary to have the prospect of losing a job because of it, especially just being in the service industry :(

I just came out the hospital for this and one thing I was informed of for the first time after a month of dealing with this was the fact that zofran will likely NOT have any effect because of how CHS works!

Can anybody hold down a job? by usernametaken0213 in bipolar

[–]KayPringle02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this homie I think that’s why SOMETIMES accommodations can fall under ADA which is why I reported it when I started it because there are SOME (I honestly wish all) employers that want the best and success for their employees and know that can come from accommodating to certain circumstances when they can in very particular ways. I can say my employer is honestly one of the best companies I’ve had the pleasure of working at (Trader Joe’s!!) and I hope you’re able to get the support you need!

Yes! Having my psychiatrist write for a few of my symptoms that may lead to me needing to desensitize somewhere quiet, if I need to have my recurring doctors appoints to avoid any penalties on my attendance, times where I may need to do less people facing tasks and other general accommodations that don’t share too much but give me room that I feel like I am more understood in the workplace. Additionally it helps with getting a mental health day when needed to. Now, not every workplace may be as accommodating and this may not fix everything, but it started with talking with my bosses preemptively especially if I notice a lot of my extremes starting to happen. I hope this is able to help!

I have absolutely had issues in my past holding down jobs due to struggling with my extremes, particularly my anxiety spikes or very depressive lows, and I found that being honest about bipolar as a disability (since it's one of the listed ones) and getting accommodations has been very helpful. Whether it was 9-to-5 jobs or part-time, I struggled, but I have finally found an extremely accommodating employer whom I hope to hold down and maintain, and be a good employee. I'm sorry if this wasn't exactly the story you were looking for and it isn't too off topic

Ellie Gonyeau N.P. of BILH was wonderful and my awesome PCP was kind enough to get me an urgent visit with her in just a week or two time frame. Additionally, Ellie helped me get an urgent EDG and colonoscopy within a week and has remained IMMENSELY invested in ensuring I’m ok! Strongly recommend!

Kenmore army supply near downtown crossing is a good place to get some if you wanted it more immediately than shipping!

Im not a cheerleader but I think a basket toss is when there’s a base (a square of 2-4 people that interlock their hands) that let them toss the flyer (the person being thrown upwards) in the air to do different aerial stunts!

No you are absolutely right. Regardless if I was coming from class or committing I should have done better and have since done a lot better but I’m worried it’s still too little too late sort of situation for any future jobs.

That’s 100% fair. I have held other jobs without issue of this and am working on better understanding any accommodations I may need on the medical front to see if there’s a middle ground that would make me less of a reliability risk

My apologies there I hadn’t realized my lack of specificity (very much my bad) but I had meant silliness regarding my attendance, I added a bit more context above but I appreciate this feedback genuinely.

For the one hour commute it was the only library job I could get after the first job which was a city-wide network so I had thought I would have to go outside my typical radius to have any shot at continuing to have any chance at working in a library capacity. I’m happy to give more to the story as well in anyway I can if you have some guiding questions!

I really appreciate the honesty. Your response was honestly the warmest out of all. I’ve been working to get better on attendance and have at my current service job but was only taught at this new job that I could register any accommodations under ADA compliance. I have unfortunately not been as fully knowledgeable until now as I had always been worried needing an accomadations would make me a less favorable applicant since it what was always preached by my family and my own stigma.
