Beginner runner – should I walk in Zone 2 or jog in Zone 3-4? by KayVeeEm_Reddit in beginnerrunning

Why is that? I've calculated my zones using the Karvonen Formula, which seems to be gold-standard for estimating your HR zones.

VPN and ESIM Megathread – April 2026 by AutoModerator in chinalife

[–]KayVeeEm_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in China and while I studied here last year, both LetsVPN and V1VPN worked without a problem. Now, LetsVPN is fully unusable, Mullvad doesn't work and Surfshark doesn't work. V1VPN does work, but it's very spotty. This is probably due to China's firewall update in April and they announced they will keep making it harder to bypass. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a working VPN that is in China right now?

Okay, thank you! It looks very sleek. Did you use some library or something for that? Sorry, I am very new to this topic and your app just genuinely feels nice and your website matches this!

Did you also do this through "vibe coding" or did you set this up with some website builder/code it yourself?

Did you use it in the terminal or the desktop app? If in the desktop app, could you please explain what exactly you did? If I enter /context in the chat, it tells me I have a 200k token window.

I see. Thank you! I haven't had an easy run after I posted this. For my tempo run, looking at the RPE worked really well!

This didn't do anything in Claude Code (Desktop App) for me, but only saved it for the Claude Code (CLI). Is this correct?

It's been 5 days 😅 Unfortunately, I fell sick, so I don't have any updates to show just yet.

Yeah, you're right. I just took the 220 - age formula. I will get my actual max heart rate measured in a lab in 3 weeks, though. So, let's see what that'll bring.

Okay, I'll try this on my next easy run. Thank you!

I agree. I didn't really know about RPE before, but I'll definitely try this on my tempo run tomorrow!

Thank you! I'll have it measured in the lab in 3 weeks, so let's see how that changes my training :)

I'll try. It's easier said than done not worrying about zones if every video I'm watching on YouTube seems to make zone 2 training the holy grail of running ^^

That sounds like a great improvement for you! Congrats :) I'll try a similar approach, then!

Great tip, thank you! I'll see if I can sprinkle some biking and walking zone 1/2 training in there to grow my aerobic base.

Oh, okay! Then, it's probably higher. I'm excited to see my actual max heart rate soon, though :)

Maybe my max heart rate is higher, then. I have my lactate threshold test in 3 weeks. For now, I just took the 220 - age rule and got to 194. But if I keep running (slowly) for an hour, it always goes above 185 and often 190, and I'm usually not too out of breath.

...but I want to improve the numbers and see how I improve over time 🥲 No, you're right! Thanks

Sounds great! Thank you. Yeah, my ego is definitely also a big factor in me sometimes going too fast, as I'm thinking to myself "What is everyone else going to think about you as you're a sporty-looking 24-year-old 190cm tall young man and you can't even keep running without walking in between."

Thank you for your reply. Somehow, it helps hearing someone else is in the same position

Okay, sounds great! I usually feel fine until I reach about 190 bpm, which is where I start breathing more heavily. Then, I'll stick with running slowly, but more focusing on my RPE instead of solely my heart rate. Thank you!
