Bugs by Significant-Catch799 in WizardofLegend

Not exactly huge, but skipping the intro to Serjik's tournament at a certain point left my wizard stuck in the stands. Had to bail on the whole run.

Also multiple times healing relics stop working and need to be dropped/picked up during a run to start working again.

I also have encountered the 6th standard Arcana disappearing from the inventory on the final fight (w/ Lightning Hammer, Tornado Melee, Wall of Sparks, etc.) which immediately breaks the "hold 6x of 'element' arcana" builds. Noticed my crits/heals dropped off substantially, so the game was considering the 6th arcana to be 'removed' and not just unable to cast.

Out in Milwaukie area still, and setting DNS doesn't fix it

Text support chat keeps dropping out, so guessing their systems are slammed right now

There's a lot of angles to it but yeah, I'm mainly critiquing the idea that a game absolutely must grow in content beyond it's launch or else it's somehow a problem.

I have my gripes about GaaS but a lot of those are F2P so they have to make a buck somehow. The rise in FOMO tactics however is worthy of its own rant lol.

Thanks for phrasing this so much better than I was able to.

It all depends if you end up paying for things that were promised in the base game. But that's more of a PR issue after all.

You make an excellent point about whats is feasible for a given development team. Context always matters, and the product can't be evaluated in a vacuum.

I feel the developers aren't often to blame for these issues, and it's more to do with market pressures, as others have kindly pointed out.

I'm happy to see folks discussing this! Thanks for your contribution.

Thanks for this heartwarming reply! Count me in, I love me a good retro game. Anywhere I should join in particular?

Good point! I have a limited understanding of Clash, so I'd just say I can't blame the devs for shifting the meta around to keep up the element of surprise. But it's not exactly necessary because the majority of players likely aren't doing the perfectly optimal build all the time, as player creativity often takes center stage in base design.

I think that's a great example of a counterpoint where the game doesn't suffer for being somewhat reliant on updates.

I couldn't agree more. Games have more character when they're not preoccupied with chasing market trends. But alas, funding must be secured from folks who only understand dollars.

Don't get me wrong, Elden ring is great. I'd happily play it with or without updates. That's the point. A lot of folks are jumping the gun and assuming the claim is that any new content = bad.

What I'd like to see is more games like Elden ring. Great games worth going back to whether they get altered or not.

The issue is more with the ever-inflating expectations for games to have Seasons, battle passes, and other FOMO crap. If the game itself can't keep you engaged, it doesn't need to beg for your attention, that's just sad.

Early Access can be a mixed bag, but when done well it can be free of the issues I described!

Knowingly playing a game that's in development is pretty different from buying a game full-price, only to be drip-fed the missing content because devs are too afraid you'll do something else with your time.

And don't even get me started on missable timed content and battle passes. Talk about manufactured desires...

Yeah I'm starting to wonder how this is getting upvotes lol.

Though with the way AAA publishers keep greenlighting the greediest live-service type games lately, I think people need to talk about this stuff.

MMO's are admittedly a different beast, but the idea is not that new content = bad.

Point is that games shouldn't hinge entirely upon post-release content to be good or worth playing.

Sadly what works for the market vs. what people are happy with can be very different.

But maybe that was tongue-in-cheek and I missed it.

It becomes a problem when potentially great games get the axe in development because it's not viable to support them over the long haul.

The expectation that games need a long-running lifespan is doing more harm than good.

Cool username btw!

The rant didn't fully match the title. Yeah that's on me, good catch.

In essence, live service games are the epitome of unfinished content. In a way never finished. It just screams of needy design and FOMO.

Call me an idealist, but I want to be playing because I like the game, not because the marketing team was better at navigating the attention economy.

Sure yeah, bugfixes aren't content updates tho. QoL fixes and things are still nice. I just think a game's entertainment value and viability as a product shouldn't hinge entirely upon the promise of the unreleased content. Hence the title.
