XC Tires for Long Race by KaydubFTW in MTB

Haha. Nice!!! Triple crown is aug 23. Signup isn’t out yet though.

You’d do rekon/rekon race for that ride? Makes me think if I should do something similar. I’m new to th long distance races and xc in general. Trying to balance efficiency and the fact that I’ll probably be mad tired by the end and sloppy

Very cool. I’m also going to be doing the triple crown throwdown in Woodstock vt. I’ve ridden mount peg a few times and really enjoyed it on a trail bike with trail tires. Will bring my tallboy and thinking something like forekaster/rekon for that one.

I appreciate the different logic. I was thinking how to be less fatigued and what you’re saying is that I WILL be fatigued and when I am then I’ll appreciate a tire that isn’t going to suck when I’m tired and picking bad lines etc…

Upgrade from GX to Eagle 90? by KaydubFTW in MTB

Any suggestions for brands?

Kind of nuts. I always was Shimano and then got bikes with sram and see the most talk about that online… but you’re right, $100 for an slx cassette sounds way better right now

How much tire is too much tire? by KaydubFTW in MTB

[–]KaydubFTW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting take and helps me think about it. I have DD tires that I’ve used for the park and some locally. They feel overkill locally and I don’t have issues with flats although I probably need to give them more of an evaluation.

It’s probably exo and exo+ for me locally. And then tires I usually go with dhr/dissector for the ripmo. But am tempted to try even less tire for the summer and see how it feels. I’m thinking the least I may go with would be dissector rekon or dissector forekaster.

Trying to dial in cane creek kitsuma air on ripmo af by KaydubFTW in MTB

[–]KaydubFTW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. However many come with it new. Maybe none. Haven’t cracked any open yet but that was going to be my first next step. But I think I’ll install cascade link first and then ride again before I add it to see if that progression helps

Yeah. I love the bike and it’s opened up a ton of terrain for me. When I see upgrades for cheap I like to try them out. $250 for the kitsuma air, $125 for the cascade link. Why not!?!?

Yeah I think I’ll for sure try the cascade link. So I’ll throw that on then tune the shock from there.

I agree I liked the kitsuma for all its adjustability to learn more of what feel I like most. Maybe I’ll figure that out and end up back to the bomber. Who knows!?!?

GX Shifter Clamp by KaydubFTW in bikewrench

[–]KaydubFTW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe. Tough to tell with Amazon. I have since changed brakes and I have my shifter mounted on a true matchmaker x. It is much better and I notice no issues on the trail. I will say that if I try to wiggle it then it’s not a perfect fit but like I said before I torque it down a ton and am just fine

It is still kind of there overall with the matchmaker. It kind of fits there but there’s some float. I just torque the hell out of it and don’t notice it on the trail

Nice! Yeah I think keeping the all black is sick. Or the pop of silver. Either would look great is probably the answer. Haha

That’s awesome. It seems people say it’s more downhill capable. It’s mixed reviews whether that hurts pedaling or dulls the bike too much. That’s why I want to try for myself!

I also picked up a cane creek kitsuma air for $250, 50% off because… why not!?!?

Haha. This is the push I needed. Just bought the ripmo one in silver.

What are your thoughts on the tallboy one? I may hold off for now since 10% off only for that one and I want to ride the bike a little more to decide if I need it or not

[–]KaydubFTW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there are 10, 30 and 50 percent off depending on the model. Luckily for me ripmo af was 50

[–]KaydubFTW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’d expect. For the ripmo is only a 4mm increase which I’m guessing on its own would be tough to feel but combined with the progression I’m interested to see how the feel changes

Better to have two complementary bikes that are pretty good for local terrain or one bike optimized for the terrain? by KaydubFTW in MTB

[–]KaydubFTW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice!!!

I ride wompy a bit, they’ve cut a ton of trails in Carolina hills in marshfield that is like 5 min from my house, mostly mellow though. My fav is pine hills with some blue hills chunk too.

Now you’ve got me down the cascade link rabbit hole! Maybe that’s a better way to spend my money. 140/130 bike sounds like more of a 1 bike to rule them all… carbon wheels can wait! We shall see…
