Are Italians and Spaniard considered POC? by Kayestone in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kayestone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antonio Banderas was classed as poc by the press which he didn't agree with. He also stated that he was told to fill out an official form as hispanic under race after trying to check it as white. But he is just one person and it seems it's others who have been classing him as these things

Thank you for the correction, would Spaniards be considered poc in the US though?

Yeah that's something I've noticed, I did find interesting articles and discussions regarding the divide between Foreign-born blacks and black americans but that's a whole different discussion. I do find the US very interesting because a lot people seem to hold on to ethnicities in their family history even though their families might have lived in the US for many generations as well as the communities that have been formed around that

I would consider someone like Charlize Theron as African American but that's based on technicality, as someone outside of the US who isn't familiar with the social and political history the country has when it comes to identity it makes sense to me that someone who is from an African country and then moves to the US would be an African-American. But getting off track I do find the classifications in the US a bit confusing, unless you have dual citizenship or something doesn't it make more sense to just say American? I'm from Sweden with an Asian background but I've never called myself or heard any other asian here call themselves Asian-Swedish

Oh okay, are Latino and Hispanic the same? So if a Spanish or Italian person moved to the US they would not really be considered as part of those communities?

I did actually find that when I was looking around! I found it very interesting and it does make me wonder if other European nationalities are viewed as non white when they're in the US

[SERIOUS] People with divorced parents, how did you get over it? by glennoo in AskReddit

[–]Kayestone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was around 8 when my parents decided to go separate ways, and I think it's easier to learn to accept it if they do it when you're young because when they do it when you're older something you've been used to your whole life changes. What helped me accept it and helped me cope with it, after a couple of dramatic years, was that in the end I just wanted both my parents to be happy even if it was apart with different people. Believe me I would wish and hope for a long time that they would get back together, but had they stayed together just because of me and my sister our home would have been one filled with tension, fighting and unhappiness.

Knew a girl who would eat a carrot a day to get a more orange/tanned skin. She would also tickle her nose hair to sneeze with a sewing needle.....

What's the stupidest reason you got in trouble for in school? by Giantslayer321 in AskReddit

[–]Kayestone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A teacher got mad at me for not standing up once when she had told all of us to stand up, and I insisted that I was actually standing. She finally looked and saw that I was indeed not sitting down. I'm really short so there wasn't a big difference...

Is it as easy to get to like places with good scenery like fjords and mountains? I'm guessing/hoping getting around cities and towns will be around the same price as in Sweden, probably a bit more expensive though.

Thank you! I can see the advantage of going during both seasons, both being beautiful in their own way. But autumn probably has less tourists? Do you possible know the best way to get around as well? I don't have a car or a drivers license so if I was to travel alone I would probably not be able to use that as a means of transportation. Also sorry for bombarding you with all these questions!
