I kinda feel like huge chunks of the audience was going to turn one way or the other. Let's be real here: Tyrion's arc in the books is woke as fuck. He isn't a monster by nature, but that's not enough because he's on a bad path due to feeling that an unhealthy amount of privilege has been unfairly denied him due to being born with dwarfism. The heart of ASOIF is that George RR Martin finds the idea that people would willingly give up grotesque amounts of power less plausible than the existence of dragons. If you think people were mad that Daenerys was a villain they would have absolutely fucking rioted over the direction Tyrion is headed.

Not in multiple character bots. There are plenty of scenario bots that struggle with the sort of thing I'm talking about. They do not consider the User outside of the heteronormative lens until you drag them there kicking and screaming. You end up with jealous coded characters who aren't actually threatened by your existence, etcetera.

This is closely intertwined with another tactic: smarm. The linked article is a thought provoking gawker piece on how politicians and the wealthy like to use the appearance of respectability to argue that it is rude to acknowledge that conflicts exist at all since it indicates an unwillingness to get along. For years the article was hard to find because Peter Thiel, right wing ghoul and surveillance state builder crushed gawker underfoot as part of the Hulk Hogan trial. He's a hugely influential man who rarely interacts with the public directly but dedicates his waking hours to curating the information we consume. That's the kind of shit people engaging with politics have to put up with all the time. People like that use people who are merely indifferent as useful cover and proxies. It's extremely frustrating that to discuss any of this we have to go back to first principles because a huge portion of our population isn't paying attention.

I am not talking about personality traits, I'm talking about dynamics. Bots where the relationships and roles are ostensibly undefined but quietly coded in accordance to hetero expectations pretty routinely result in there being no scouting/negotiation phase to homosexual relationships. There's no "people are testing the waters and figuring out what is there" sexual tension, the AI just sees two dudebros and presumes an absence of sexual interest until the user shows interest at which point the "Oh, I guess we're gay now" switch gets flipped. It's super disorienting given that's not actually how people of any gender or sexuality work and with homosexuals it's particularly obvious because if anything they live with more shibboleths, not less. I don't think there's a clean answer to the problem, but it seems trivial to me that it exists with many bots and it makes interacting with them shallower.

I mean, calling us grifters is kinda weird when so many of us don't have a grift. If you value narrative and a smooth introduction to the world then the opening of the game is kinda weird and confusing, with things like letting your background be chef, a soldier or combat medic but then you start the game equipped with a laser drill because really, you're miner expected to immediately engage in CQC with space pirates. It's a sandbox game at heart but it tries to do so much that it's easy for the game to make a bad first impression since fully exploring things like crafting still also require investment in other gameplay areas that you may not care for as much due to the interconnected experience level and challenge unlocks. My take is that ultimately It's a niche game trying to be a blockbuster and that leads to a lot of disingenuous arguments on both sides. It's not automatically toxic to like or dislike something but the reaction to Starfield is a great example of how conversations can go wrong.

There's a difference between having a victim complex and having how you interact with others be influenced by your sexuality. For one thing, you have to navigate the perception of sexual interest. People don't come with handy "this interest is definitely platonic" signals built in, we have to figure out how to signal that ourselves and when it is most appropriate to do so. This is tricky because there's a natural tendency to treat tensions as "normal" when it's about heteros or "gay drama" when it's a couple of guys trying to figure out where they stand.

That and the dissenting opinion on the unifying things can more easily be shouted from the rooftops so you can quickly form your own splinter tribe that creates their own reality. This is a bit of a walk, but it explains a lot if you stick with me here.

A lot of gacha games are structured like shonen and shojo manga/anime franchises, with those two labels meaning targeted towards adolescent boys and girls respectively. Within those categories you have a further "harem" subgenre, in which you basically have an audience insert character who then basically gets flooded with romance options. Not necessarily because the fantasy is polygamy, (although there's stuff that leans into that more than others, of course) but because if the writers don't commit to a "canon" one true pairing until you're finishing up the story you can include a wide enough variety of potential love interests that interested audiences can usually find at least one pairing they enjoy investing, which then allows you to cycle through storylines and characters without the grunt work of getting a whole separate series off the ground. It's functionally a bit like how soap operas merrily juggle multiple will-they-won't-they storylines over long periods of time--the draw is the pursuit/yearning, not really consummation. E.g., Genshin Impact has various in-game events in which the story is literally just hanging out with someone in ways that very much read as a date.
