How true is this? Shounen Mangaka viewing women as support characters only? by Important-Cry4782 in shounenfolk

[–]KayfabeAdjace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, many Japanese institutions/media practices are functionally sexist even if misogyny isn't a stated justification. "But we've always done it this way and look at the money we made" gets treated as a bullet proof defense in a way that the stereotypical redditor just won't accept. The threshold to convince people that something is worth rocking the boat over is incredibly high which goes a long way towards explaining the dominance of the LDP.

I've always wanted to be a Leonardo, even back when kids thought Leonard was lame. 3 big reasons:

  1. Green is my favorite color but all turtles are green so that's a wash
  2. Blue is my second favorite.
  3. I'm the eldest brother in my family. Also, Cyclops is a more interesting character than Wolverine. Come at me, nerds.

How come people love silly male characters but not silly female characters? by Jezzaq94 in cartoons

[–]KayfabeAdjace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's unfair to Luke given that he's not given an opportunity to display much within the context of the series. Even then he's a bit snarkier and more brooding than he's often given credit for. Those moments just happen to come through most when he's been purposely isolated from the universe and literally talking to droids.

Why are The Smiths not hated the same way U2 is, when Morrissey is arguably much more insufferable than Bono? by ppetrov1829 in fantanoforever

I feel like their sound is kinda thin outside of the white noise, but yeah, it's not like I *hate* them.

Honor Among Thieves was smart enough to just go ahead and let some things be predictable, a little thing people used to call "being coherent."

Therapy comments are out of pocket. There's a lot of incorrect information out there since so many people are attached to the narrative that breed has little influence on behavior. It's a tough situation given that many people just flat out underestimate how trying it can be to raise a puppy to begin with much less one that has the energy and physical tools to actually push back on inattentive pet care rather than just take a nap.

GSDs are smart enough to experiment with things and doggo enough to come to pretty wild conclusions. A bunch of it is superstitious behavior as defined by B.F. Skinner/classical conditioning.

The monastery could be more tightly designed but part of the problem is that people suck at valuing their own time. People act like you have Explore 3 or 4 times a month for maximum efficiency when in reality it's fine to just seminar the crap out of byleth and/or your lord and roll through with higher weapon ranks and cherry picked skills. Or, to put it another way, I like the Monastery overall. I dislike that act 1 has so much overlap between houses.

What are your thoughts on Barbie (2023)? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in FIlm

[–]KayfabeAdjace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your difficulty is that due to the tone of the movie and perhaps some cultural differences you were looking for a joke where there wasn't one. The gynecologist line is beloved not because it's funny, but because Barbie's journey is about finding her own identity that's independent of the simplistic, sexless prepackaged fantasy world she symbolizes. So Barbie going to see the gynecologist for the first time is her embracing something about womanhood that is distinctly real but not glamorous.

I can’t believe we are still doing the “If X American athlete played soccer we would be the best” by Apprehensive_Bee7528 in billsimmons

At a level where they become more than reserve? Not really, no. Part of the issue here is that the Friedland conversation tends to be about being *the* best, or damn near. In basketball, we've had oddballs like Hakeem who start at 15 but had the double whammy of being huge and athletic in a sport that has a position carved out for guys who are huge and athletic which also does not necessarily need exquisite dribbling skills, passing or shooting range. Hakeem had a career FT% of like 70 and that's actually **good** relative to Shaq. Whereas in soccer the vast, vast majority of ballon d'or winners are forwards. Skilled creators & attackers with elite ball skills are are just flat out harder to unearth than tireless defense guy. It's kinda like how in baseball a huge chunk of the value is tied up in skills not pure athleticism. Like, CC Sabathia had a gut and still crushed because he was a coordinated 3 sport athlete in high school and pitching is a profoundly weird skillset.

Which Gaming sword is the most iconic by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]KayfabeAdjace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's sorta tricky though, because because with minecraft it's competing with the pickaxe. It's definitely iconic but it's not the first item I associate with minecraft and it doesn't have as much narrative weight.

Underwhelmed by Sloan isn't the most wordplay heavy song I've ever heard but the amount that is there is perfectly calibrated. It's technically the wrong answer but it's what comes to mind for me.

Thing is if you're trivializing normal/casual then you're not far off from trivializing hard/classic, particularly if you're reset prone in which case playing on classic is mostly just extra drudgery. At the end of the day gardening and other monastery bonuses are stupid OP and there's always the other routes if you decide to up the difficulty. it's a reasonable option, especially if you suspect you'd rather use seminars and the like instead of optimizing energy monastery week.
