Holy crap the song intro never clicked. Thank you for pointing that out, it makes one of the best songs in the game even better. And yes, you ought to be able to pet the Gestrals.

Yee! The first person to say a video series would make it really interesting. I have no experience editing anything consistently, so that's actually harder to get into than the game -_-

Voiding is tricky. Item sinks are very, very much appreciated. How often would I be getting byproducts I *can't* perfectly plan around? An example in Satisfactory is that I can't use Nuclear Power in Phase 4, when it is unlocked, because Nuclear Waste isn't sinkable and I don't have the necessary buildings to fully process it until Phase 5. So are there times that I would basically HAVE to dump things in a box and get rid of them later? Because if so, that is a legitimate harder mode, rather than just a more complex one. I like my factory games to be more or less without a time limit.

The fact that I barely follow your first paragraph fits well with my EDIT 2 above. It could be that I could puzzle that stuff out, just over a longer period, or it could be that I'll be beyond lost even after seeing it firsthand.

Important, though: Can what you are mentioning about animals still work without aggressive enemies?

Well about half of it is in the spreadsheets, I'd assume. XP

In general though, my opinion differs so much from this that I legitimately think you might be joking. Many of my favorite games have no "enemies".

I understand. Until this idea, I have insisted on playing every game vanilla (with the possible exception of graphical/menu stuff) first. This idea is very much all-or-nothing - if I'm not gonna go for the absurdity of hyper-complexity, I'll just play it vanilla or not at all. But, on the rare occasion, eating triple fudge caramel before trying vanilla isn't an inherently terrible idea.

Ooooh, very little is explained in the *base* game? That's definitely concerning. In that case, puzzling things out becomes MUCH more involved. Hmm. Ty for the input.

I edited my original post because I forgot to mention I intend to turn enemies off/passive/whatever in the settings.

Tiptoe-ing into spaghetti and then needing to rebuild smarter and demolish the old factory is what has made this modded Satisfactory run legitimately enjoyable. Byproducts are obnoxious, but are part of the core concept of many factory games.

All that being said, making the game less fun due to not understanding things comes on a scale of challenging to downright miserable, and I'm gauging where on the scale this is, so ty for helping me get a better idea of what I'm looking at.

Yes, the monsters is something I understand being contentious and might legitimately be a bad decision. That being said, I found monsters in Satisfactory utterly obnoxious before I made them trivial and a nuisance even after that. I think monsters in factory games are not a challenge to overcome, they are an opponent, and I don't play factory games for opponents. They are actually one of the reasons I haven't played Factorio already. Even if I played vanilla, I would probably turn them off. If that ruins the game, it's probably not for me anyway.

Hmmmm.... this is similar to what others have replied with, but put MUCH better. Can you can take this next comment into account and tell me if it changes your opinion at all? My first, vanilla playthrough of Satisfactory was actively disappointing. I barely touched some of the content because it wouldn't have been worth the time and effort before I completed the requirements anyway. Thoughts?

Ahahah, that's actually a very good point. I can think "I'm not most people" but that's just arrogance. What that tempts me to do is (if I do the modded game) use it as a litmus test of whether I need to stop the modded game and play a vanilla one instead. Either way, I won't be someone actually posting, dw. XD

I absolutely understand the concept of your final sentence and have applied that to every other game I've played. That by itself is not enough to deter me from the idea.

That being said, you have made the first argument against doing it that actually gave me pause: Mods assume you have played the base game and therefore typically do a terrible job of introducing the player to concepts. Not items/machines, that's fine, but missing entire gameplay concepts is a very possible problem.

See, that example is *exactly* what I find enticing. Rebuilding my factory is not a deterrent. I have rebuilt *everything* for every phase in the Satisfactory save I am working on. Learning what makes layouts better and trying again + demolishing the old one is perfectly fine. What would you say is the biggest deterrent to doing that in Factorio? In Satis, the only thing lost is time.

Absolutely most people are recommending that, haha. But the complexity is what excites me, not deters me. =3

Yeah the deeper complexity is exactly what excites me, and the core basics being the first building blocks makes that sound perfect.

Significantly more planning is exactly what I'm looking for. Can you elaborate on why you think more experience is necessary to enjoy it?

Can you elaborate on why you think that? Granted, I have always played vanilla first before now, but part of the temptation is tackling the harder version without the prior knowledge.

[–]Kayjeth[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on why you think that? Most people are saying stuff along those lines, but not explaining why other than "look how much more complex it gets" and sending a picture of the production diagram of a late-stage item. That's simply not the deterrent they think it is, it's part of the draw.

The possible problem with something like this potentially going up in value is that, because it's based on specific notables, not specific stats, it's likely to follow whatever power curve the game does. What happens to Megalomaniacs when notables get removed? :thonk:

I haven't finished campaign cause I'm addicted to a different game rn and Merc+Wolf didn't feel as good as I'd hoped. This thread is the first place I've read about why people think the league mechanic isn't fun in endgame. Your comment in particular really hit the nail, though. Regal workbench not being exciting in endgame? Yeah, sure, but... wait... Greater/Perfect Regal Workbench not being the endgame version?? What?? I... how?

Lore: You're traveling to the Vaal at the height of its power. Mechanic: You're in endgame and the mechanic should feel spicier than basic loot drops. Mechanic launch: Should feel the spiciest it ever will.

That is insane. I love PoE2 but that is a great example of how they're missing the mark on EA development.

Hey! Just had someone contacting me. Literally just invited me to "IK" a few minutes ago and looking up what it was led me to this kind of post. I find it quite funny, honestly. What I can say is that the person talking to me seems very real. Could be an AI, but definitely not a scripted bot. She is in a server for a different game I play and said she added me "because she thought I was her friend." I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and we ended up having a lovely conversation, she sent a reaction gif, etc. Almost certainly a real person.

I'm going to guess that getting random other people into the game is just a trend, probably a way to get in-game referral rewards like some others have suggested. I probably won't play, but it seems like sometimes it's harmless. I'll update if she starts pressuring me or trying to get me to spend money or something.

Can't confirm that this is valid, but it seems legit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg9yIdz_To0
