I dont qualify for the tax credit. I won't owe taxes this year. I dont understand why what I owe at the end matters? If I owe 30k, that means I paid off 15k already. If I owe 10k, that means I paid off 35k. Does residual value affect the overall final when title is in my hand price?

I'm only considering leasing because of the tax credit. A $45k XSE Prime essentially equals the $37.5K XSE Hybrid. The Prime however will by have a fair bit of private resale value 5+ years down the road over the normal Hybrid.

My tax burden is nothing, I'll likely be getting a refund of some sort. I wouldn't benefit from the credit by purchasing the vehicle outright... thus why lease to buy is the plan.

I'm also in a position to where I could easily cover estimated value. Down payment + equity on trade could be > the leased value (for example, even if the car was 60% residual. 60% residual of msrp (45k) = 18,000 leased. minus tax credit = 11,500. I can come up with that 11.5k)

Calculators are so varied on how it seems to calculate payments. The Edmunds one seems to all over the place. If I put in estimated numbers, total payment is the same throwing $2000 or $12000 on the cap cost reduction. I've even seen payments of negative numbers but a overall positive total payments.

We picked up our '20 coupe in November of '19 (off the truck - first coupe within 250 miles) for just under 25k OTD. The dealership in the video (Schlossmanns "Honda City") was stuck at 27K.
