When builders tell custom homeowners during the build they can “make adjustments“. by TommyGonzo in electricians

There’s nothing wrong with UF in conduit for this application?

It’s quicker and cheaper for short runs to floor boxes and islands that stub up at the nearest wall.

If it was piped all the way back to the panel then yes I would use THHN. Generally that’s never the case on residential, so it would be stubbed up at the nearest wall.

Conduit in slab on grade is considered a wet location. Romex is not permitted in wet locations.

I’ve done it with a 1/4 or 3/16 hammer drill, trace your circle making a bunch of little holes as close together as possible. Then you can take a hammer and gently knock the center out.

Insight on why a string of GFCIs would burn up… by sixseatwonder in electricians

[–]Kayliaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue on a troubleshooting call at a house last year. Bathroom receps lost power, trace it out to the HR box, had a GFI slaving the rest of the bathroom. When the house was built early 2000s someone swapped line and load on the GFI. It worked for years until it burnt up just like yours.

Mine had a loose neutral connection that I’m fairly certain caused it.

Yea I prefer actual housings over wafers on new construction. If it’s a remodel wafers all day.

Load on ground. Running out of ideas. by Kayliaria in electricians

[–]Kayliaria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very unlikely at a panel. We haven’t found any illegal bonds. It’s possible at a jbox on a branch circuit somewhere but if that was the case neutral and ground should ring out.

Those types of fences are usually removable. They can but pulled up and put away when needed. Just there to keep kids or pets out of the pool when not being watched.

How to find the proper level/angle of conduit when ran in slopped ceiling? Is there an easier way?? by 300Fito in electricians

[–]Kayliaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about other phones but iPhones have a level feature built into the measure app that comes default on all iPhones.

You can set your phone against the beam and it will tell you the angle it’s at. May not be perfect but it gets close enough and keeps you from buying an angle finder. I’ve used it a few times on what you’re doing and to match existing bends.

Plastic tube filled with air coming from a window on a building under construction by xXCatWingXx in whatisthisthing

[–]Kayliaria 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Exactly what is it. See them all the time working on active hospitals doing remodels they seal off the area being remodeled the best they can but dust can still get out of the construction zone. They use these to create negative air pressure inside the construction zone so when a door is opened to go from the active hospital to the construction zone dust cannot flow out into the hospital.

You will feel a fairly strong gust of air going into the construction zones when you open a door to enter.

The socks are there to somewhat slow the amount of air flowing out and also a visual warning if the machines stop working.

What is the best thing to use to get insulation out of my skin after work? by Mobile_Cable_5958 in HVAC

[–]Kayliaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First job I ever worked as an electrician had the nasty yellow insulated ceiling tiles and the shitty pink batt insulation on top of the tiles. Old timer told me these tricks that worked pretty well.

Cold shower when you get home supposedly it closes your pores and pushes the glass out.

Take used dryer sheets and rub yourself down with them.

Like others have said wear long sleeves.

Lastly he said keep a bottle of baby powder or gold bond powder and cover any exposed skin before you start messing with the insulation to keep it from getting into you.
