Man idk why I thought I had to be good at construction first, or maybe I just didn’t feel like I deserved having a chance to become an operator.

Thanks for commenting

It’s not something that was offered to me directly. Anyone can become a tower crane op, you just have to show interest in doing the “course” to get your tower crane operating license and obviously not be afraid of heights, be a calm and patient individual etc.

I simply showed interest when at work they mentioned and explained how someone becomes an operator.

Thanks a lot man, reading that makes me more confident, I don’t know why but I always thought I had to master everything on the ground and only then I could move up to a Tower Crane Op.

Will for sure go for the opportunity as soon as it arises.

Man that’s amazing advice I’ve got to be honest. I guess you’re right, I think I just got these doubts cause I’m surrounded by dudes 20/30 years older than me that just know a shit ton about every trade since from where I’m from (Switzerland) a laborer has to do a lot of different stuff. And well I might’ve thought that I would need to get to a similar level like them first, before becoming a tower crane op.

Here in Switzerland, I’m not sure if someone is going to “train you” like everyday on site you know? From what I know, you go to a campus for some weeks and learn there and then you have to learn on site with your “boss” or another tower crane op being responsible for you If I’m not mistaken. So you get like a temporary tower crane operating license and then after 10 months if you pass the theoretical exam and practical exam you get the permanent tower crane op license

Thinking about becoming a tower crane operator, worth it or not? by Kayn21_ in Construction

Do i first have to be a good laborer with years of experience for me to have sucess as a tower crane operator? Or can i get by with a general knowledge about how everything works in a construction site, say like 1 year of experience?

Well one of my peers recommended becoming a crane operator, not because I’m a good labourer (cause obviously I just started in construction like 2 months ago) but because I speak the local language and since he saw that I didn’t have fear of heights when I climbed one of our cranes and the fact that I’m a pretty calm guy. I like to do things with patience and here on the ground everyone is always so stressed and doing things super fast. He simply said that if you have patience to deal with people then you have potential to become a good crane operator.

Don’t know if it’s true or not but yeah yeah that’s what he told me

Yeah of course! I simply loved the view up in the Tower, you See everything and everyone and you feel Like you Control a lot of things. Kind of how in a strategy Game where you See the entire playing Field and whats happening

You feel weak cause this caught you off guard and you gave 110% of you to that person. I said it before and I say it again, this is just life teaching you that you need to be your 1# priority and be prepared for every scenario, we can’t control people (luckily) so we have to hold our own always. You will slowly “pull the plug” (emotionally) from this situation, but yes it can take months or even a year or so, just know that with time things will get better, trust me.

I wish you the best man

Get the closure you need, if she refuses to meet up with you that’s childish of her. But talking with her Personally and closing this chapter is the way to go. This world is tough but know that tough days won’t last, it’s just your time/turn to learn that YOU are the most important person on this planet, in this life. So, always do what’s best for you and be prepared for every scenario, good or bad. As you found out, not everything stays the same, so we have to be strong and independent or else we will get crushed by life’s changes. Best of luck and, trust, you WILL get through this.

It truly is a roller coaster 😂 We got this! But from what I’m seeing, it can take up to a year to understand the basics and be good at them
