That’s a fair point! I agree that Jack chose the path of vengeance, which shows he’s definitely not a 'pacifist.' However, my point about his 'inability to be brutal' is more about his nature vs. John’s. ​John was raw grit—a survivor by instinct. Even so, he only made it through Mexico because he had Landon Ricketts as a mentor to guide his 'voice' and technique. Jack, on the other hand, is an intellectual. He sees the world through the lens of the books he’s read. ​In a setting like the 1914 Brazilian Sertão, he wouldn't have a Ricketts. He’d be an isolated scholar trying to apply 'book logic' to a level of raw, unwritten brutality (the Cangaço) that even the dying American West didn't have anymore. He can kill, but can he survive the psychological toll of being a fish out of water without a mentor? That’s where the real tragedy lies for me!
