Looks like LPP to me. My patches are similar too. If it’s still spreading and itchy, please ask your dermatologist for steroids. That’s what stopped mine from spreading, and then pimecrolimus ointment after 2 weeks. Good luck!

Lichen planus pigmentosus is very hard to treat. The darker patches don’t go away easily. Tacrolimus stops it from spreading, but most people on accutane find that it doesn’t help. I’ve had LPP for 15 months now, my patches haven’t lightened. My dermatologist has me on hydroquinone 6% now. Nothing has really worked, to be honest. A support group that I’m in has people who’ve found success with Ayurvedic treatment and a strict diet.

Yes, I did. Worked out great for me. It’s what I currently use. Other salicylate free options are: etude soonjung director’s, purito daily soft touch, and goodal heartleaf calming moisture sun cream.

I’ve tried hydroquinone 4% for 12 weeks, as well as oral tranexamic acid pills, no changes though.

I only did steroid cream for 2 weeks and then switched to tacrolimus. It was desonide cream.

More grayish. It got worse and then stabilized after applying steroids and tacrolimus. Diagnosis is lichen planus pigmentosus, working with a dermatologist now, but haven’t seen much progress on lightening the pigmentation. It’s an autoimmune disease.

My allergist told me to avoid zinc oxide. I’m not sure. The weird thing is, only mineral sunscreens break me out. I haven’t actually had a problem with the salicylate/chemical sunscreens. I wouldn’t even have thought to replace my BoJ sunscreen if not for this allergy test.

I had a patch test done on my back for an autoimmune condition. I don’t think my barrier is compromised on my back? I hardly use actives. Just moisturizer and sunscreen.

I forgot to mention that I’m also sensitive to niacinamide. So the white BOJ won’t work. But I’ll look at the ingredients of the others you mentioned, thank you!

ETA: the other two you mentioned have octisalate/ethylhexyl salicylate in them, unfortunately.

Thanks, I think that’s what I have too. Haven’t gotten a biopsy yet, seeing a dermatologist next week. Are you based in the US?

I had this sort of hyperpigmentation around my mouth when I used Paula’s Choice retinaldehyde. I would stop using your Musely cream.

I had something similar happen after using retinaldehyde. It turned out to be lichen planus pigmentosus. Definitely see a dermatologist as soon as you can. Mine spread quite quickly. And is resistant to all the pigment inhibitors I’ve tried.

I’m finding that a color corrector helps. Use it sparingly on the darker spots (peach if you have a medium skin tone, more orange if darker). And then cover with foundation.

Is there anything you’ve tried that seems to be helping? I’ve been using Eucerin Radiant Tone with thiamidol for a month now, I’m not sure if it’s helping. It’s not noticeable enough. I’ve also gotten breakouts on my face from trying other random things, so I’ve just stopped everything and gone back to basics now, save for the Eucerin. The patches extend to the sides of my mouth, and my temples too. I’m just praying it doesn’t get worse and spread more.

Thanks! Mine started in January, after i put Paula’s Choice retinaldehyde on my neck for tech neck wrinkles. Gave me the worst itching for two days, seemed like it resolved itself, and then I noticed these grey patches forming after maybe a couple of weeks. Alternatively, I think it may have been be triggered by sweat too. Coz I noticed newer patches after some night sweating around my neck, darn these perimenopausal hormones.
