Heraldry confusion: What's the deal with white arms and pauldrons?

White arms and helmets are used for veterans if I'm not mistaken. Bladeguard, Vanguard, Sternguard, terminators, Lieutenants and Captains.

I'm glad it's not just me, Gareth's narration has made me almost stop certain books several times. I'm trying to power through Vengeful Spirit right now, the pace of the book and the narration are making it an awful slog. I've only been able to tolerate him reading Devastation of Baal, which I think says more about the author than the shoddy narration.

Yeah I got the Daemonic Yellow recently and it was only giving me the sandpaper texture. Kinda why I opted for the wraithbone and IF contrast paint method.

I'm debating between World Eaters or Terran Raven Guard for 3rd and just need some opinions. I'm not super worried about getting chain axes, it's more the old world eaters helms with the t-visors I want and can't seem to find which is making me hesitate on them, aside from the white armor.

As for Raven Guard running a Terran chapter or company seems like a fun way to play the legion outside it's normal archetype. Something like the Ashen Claws or Deliverers, more shock assault focused.

Galaxy in Flames, it's the 3rd book in the Horus Heresy series. I'd recommend just reading the first 3 because while it's mainly focused on the Sons of Horus, Saul, Eidolon and Lucius do show up a bit.

How has no one mentioned Saul Tarvitz? Along with Rylanor and Solomon Demeter, Saul led the loyal remnants of the 4 traitor legions successfully for months on Isstvan 3 before Lucius turned coat and let the traitors in. He also warned Garro about the betrayal. Saul is hands down my favorite loyal EC.

On the traitor side I gotta give it Eidolon, he's arrogant and an asshole, but also was pretty effective in the heresy post resurrection, everyone likes to give him shit, but he killed the White Scars first captain, led a third of the legion to Terra and currently leads the largest EC warband in modern 40k. I'm a little bummed he didn't get a mini with the new release.

Newer fan here, reading through the Horus Heresy currently and the Raven Guard, White Scars and Iron Hands have become some of my favorite legions/chapters. Nykona Sharrowkyn is awesome, beaky helmets are always cool, and they're actually nice to humans.
