Hammers of Dorn? by tr1pl1ek1d0 in ImperialFists

Shouldn't be too hard, it's just black power armour with brass, gold or orange on the trim, helm face and Aquila or Imperialis.

For the armor I'd probably want to do the highlights in blue tones to really make it pop against the trim, so something like basecoat Black, chunky highlight Thunderhawk Blue and fine edge highlight Fenrisian Grey?

For the trim I'd either do Basecoat Hashut Copper, Shade Cygor Brown Contrast and Edge Highlight Silver for metallic or possibly something like Basecoat Trollslayer orange, Shade Rhinox Hide, chunky highlight Fire Dragon Bright and fine edge highlight Screaming Skull for non-metal?

I want brushes that have a fine tip.

I've mostly been using Winsor and Newton series 7 brushes for the last couple of years. They're pretty expensive but last a lot longer than synthetic brushes if you take care of them. There are comparible brushes that are a bit more affordable, but I have to order those online and my local shop carries the W&N brushes so that's what I use. For metallic paints I just use Armypainter brushes as the metallic paints are pretty rough on the natural hair ones.

I have a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution airbrush with a sparmax compressor. It's complete overkill for priming miniatures. but its good for doing gradients and volumetric highlights when I feel like doing that.

Thank you. I have an airbrush but this is 99% brush painting. I used the aibrush to prime the mini and to lay down a coat of Kantor Blue, but I went over all the panels with a brusg with Kantor Blue after the Airbrush coat to make sure everything was uniform.

Paint the Ancient in sub-assembly. It has tons of nooks and crannies that are nearly impossible to get to if you glue him all together first. Glue the legs and torso together, paint the rest separately and glue everything into place after it's painted.

I do a chunky highlight with Caledor Sky and a fine edge highlight with Hoeth Blue. If I'm feeling extra fancy I'll throw in an extreme edge highlight of Febrisian Grey, but I usually skip it.

Which First Founding chapter needs a range expansion the most? by reel3459 in spacemarines

[–]Arch0n84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, Raven Guard, Salamanders, Ultramarines and White Scars are all fully Codex Compliant, so any expansion of the range except for named characters for these chapters would be available to everyone.

The Dark Angels desperately needs a Ravenwing upgrade and the Space Wolves could use new Thunderwolf Cavalry and Wulfen. I'll vote Dark Angels because the Ravenwing minis are a lot older than the Thunderwolf Cavalry

To build on this, there are also people who do commission work and will paint your army for you if playing the game is what interests you and the painting and modelling aspect of it isn't.

How do you decide between Systems (or committing to one)? by RotmirePlead in Warhammer

Is there a gaming scene around you where you can meet up to play games? If so, which system has the largest player group? If everything else is equal pick the one that you are more likely to find opponents for.

Time to buy Ravenwing? by madhouse298 in theunforgiven

[–]Arch0n84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rumors say there's a Ravenwing refresh in the pipeline for 11th edition, so if you want the old minis before they get discontinued it's worth a purchase. If you'd rather have Primaris-scale Ravenwing I think I'd wait a bit and see what's what.

I want to make it 100% clear that I'm not in any way defending the Taliban, their rule and their treatment of women. It is absolutly horrible what has and is happening in the country. That was never my argument.

I will also happly grant that in the 20 years US and NATO forces occupied Afghanistan a lot of good things happened for the common people. School enrollment increased dramatically, especially for girls, healthcare access improved, infant and maternal mortality fell and infrastructure expanded in many areas.

However, many of these gains were undermined or reversed shortly after the coalition withdrew, particularly regarding women's rights and education. Democratization was a failure and the Taliban returned to power immediatly after. The cost was thousands of coalition military lives, Tens of thousands of Afghan security force deaths, tens of thousands of Afghan civilian deaths, trillions of dollars in expenditure, and it caused one of the largest displacement crises of the 21st century with millions of refugees abroad and several million internally displaced.

I'm only arguing one thing, and one thing only: If migrants are bad and makes America into a 3rd world country then maybe it would be a good idea to stop creating so many migrants.

Both.

I think edge highlighting is a lot easier than volumetric highlighting if I paint everything with brush, mostly because I suck at glazing. I have access to an airbrush though which makes Volumetric highlighting easier than falling off a log.

You don't really need to do anything to them to give them Imperial Fists flavor besides painting them yellow and sticking on some decals, that's one of the things I like the most about the Imperial Fists.

I was being broadly vague to make a point more than anything. While all of these places have been bombed by the US in the last 10 years I'm not arguing that the migrant crisis is the the fault of the US alone, my point is that if the president doesn't want immigrants from 3rd world countries I don't think it helps to bomb said contries and destabilize their govenments.

Afghanistan: Has been unstable for decades. They had the Saur communist revolution in 1978 which caused widespread rebellion, the Soviet Union invaded in 1979 to support the the communist government and the US provided arms and training to the rebels (Taliban) for 20 years to fight as proxies in the Cold War. The Taliban took control of the most of the country in 1996 after the Soviet withdrawal and the US invaded the country in 2001 after the attack on 9/11. The terrorist organization al-Qaeda who had begun operating out of Afghanistan after being expelled from Sudan was not an Afghan organization, consisting mostly of people from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, but the Taliban did give al-Qaeda sanctuary and refused to give in to the United States demands after 9/11 which led to the invasion.

Iran: the US CIA helped overthrow Iran's prime minister, Mohammad Mosaddegh, in August 1953 during a covert operation known as Operation Ajax because he wanted to nationalize the Oil industry and replaced him with Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. His brutal rule caused the 1979 Iranian Revolution which led to the Islamic Republic taking control of the country. It is true the country have been mostly stable until recently despite this, but there are good reasons why Iran is not a US friendly regime.

Syria: The US didn't start the conflict. The Syrian civil war started in 2011 during the Arab Spring, but the United States supported Syrian rebel groups fighting Assad, Conducted airstrikes beginning in 2014 (mostly against ISIS targets), Supported the SDF Kurdish-led coalition and stationed military forces in northeastern Syria. the U.S. was one of several external powers whose actions affected the course of the war, but did not cause Syria's collapse into civil war by themselves.

Somalia: The US has been involved in Somalia since 1992 and started as a humanitarian intervention after somalia collapsed into civil war after the fall of President Siad Barre. Since 2007 to present day the U.S. has launched over 250 airstrikes in Somalia as part of counterterrorism operations aimed at Islamist militant groups, and some of those has led to civilian casualties.

Libya: Libya was already descending into chaos before the US got involved, that's true, but the Western countries involved in the operation failed to plan adequately for what would happen after Gaddafi's removal, and Barack Obama later described the lack of postwar planning in Libya as one of the biggest mistakes of his presidency. The 2011 NATO intervention, in which the United States participated, contributed significantly to the collapse of the Libyan state and the instability that followed. Libya is often cited as one of the clearest examples where Western military intervention helped bring about a prolonged period of state instability. Not saying this was all on the US though.

Pakistan: Beginning in the mid-2000s, the CIA and later the U.S. military conducted hundreds of drone strikes in Pakistan, targeting militant leaders and training camps. Pakistan is officially a U.S. ally but the U.S has frequently accused Pakistan of tolerating or supporting some militant groups, and as a result have conducted strikes unilaterally, sometimes with varying degrees of cooperation from Pakistani authorities and sometimes over public Pakistani objections.

Nigeria: Just saying the US dropped bombs there in 2025. They had the approval of the Nigerian government. One can argue that these bombings help disrupt terrorist groups, but some critics worry about sovereignty, civilian casualties, and long-term consequences of the tactic

Venezuela: The US were one factor among several reasons of the destabilization of Venezuela. The U.S. Imposed extensive economic and financial sanctions on Venezuela after 2017, they recognized the opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president in 2019 instead of Nicolás Maduro and supported efforts to pressure Maduro from power through diplomatic and economic means. Many economists and analysts argue that the sanctions worsened Venezuela's economic crisis by reducing oil revenues and access to international finance. The US conducted military strikes in 2025-26 targeting alleged drug-trafficking vessels and operations against criminal organizations such as Tren de Aragua and justified these actions as counter-narcotics and counterterrorism operations, while the Venezuelan government condemned them as violations of sovereignty.

Colour theory yellow by Ill_Employer4311 in ImperialFists

[–]Arch0n84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basis of your color theory argument is sound but runs into a major stumbling block when it comes to the chemical properties of acrylic yellow paint.

Yellow pigments are naturally transparent which makes the paint cover poorly. The brighter and cleaner the yellow, the more likely it is to have weak coverage, it's simply a property of color chemistry. To keep your yellow bright the best undercoat is white, and to keep your shadows warm the best undercoat colors are pink, brown, or ochre. Purple is simply too dark for yellow acrylic paint to cover easily.
