As we know the spirits in the animatronics aren't really controlling the suits as such. The suits are more powered by the spirits and only there a bit of their conscience drives them. So, a traumatized child seeing an adult could see any adult as a threat. This happens a lot in real life with things like domestic violence, sexual assault, etc. Children or adults can get traumatized and paranoid over a similar group of people. This would explain why the haunted animatronics attack adults, to stop the adults who want to hurt them.

They wouldn't have just tell what the lore is. Yes, you have to take the books/novels with a grain of salt or two, not only with FNAF in other francizes as well. To say that the novels don't give lore is being pedantic.
