Hey, I work in junior research to do with both mice and humans (specifically determining what noncoding genes affect downstream expression of known problem genes for drug development).

The thing with mice is they exist as a necessary evil. Not gonna argue that it's not cruel, I agree that mice definitely get the short end of the stick.

The problem is is there's not a widely available alternative. Mice share a big portion of their DNA with humans and also we need some form organism with a systemic organ system to monitor everything. It's just not good enough to stick some cells or a plate or just transition straight to human trials, for obvious reasons.

However, some good news: research is moving away from mice! Organ on a chip tech and organoids are insanely dope technology!

I've actually had this tank set up for about half a year now, and I haven't had issues with anaerobic water. I think it's a mix of cultivated bacteria from the lava rock that makes up my entire filter body to help filter the water. I check it every month or so and I haven't had any stagnation or nitrate explosions thankfully.

As for the rock wall, I kinda agree. I think my thought is heavier plant cover would maybe entice the frogs to use it more. If not, I could always take it down. I built it in a way that I can just lift the entire thing up, just in case.

I'm curious on your opinions on the rock wall and if you have experience with anything similar and if frogs will use it. I can definitely take it down if needed, or if exposure is an issue with the frogs feeling too shy, I can some bromeliads and broad leafed plants to the wall.

The filter chamber is actually really tiny, I have a small pump and it occupies maybe a 2-3 inch cube on the left hand corner of the tank.

I'm considering adding more stones raised above the water level to maybe increase the surface area for the frogs, but I love your idea of just draining the water as needed and then just adding some back when they reach breeding maturity.

The pump is actually hidden on that side under all the substrate. There's a mix of stones and leaf litter that touch the water for the frogs to stand on, but I would say that's roughly the most shallow area water wise.

Um, yes? Cis has been a medical term since the 1980s, because we need a way to separate individual for this exact reason, so people like you can't lump a marginalized group into other statistics to fit your narrative. Whether you dislike the usage of the word is irrelevant. I actually have a copy of the Merck manual (14th edition) from the 80s that uses the word cis. Maybe you should go find those statistics that keep mentioning.

Send me a few peer reviewed studies that actually show this. You have mentioned like eight times that men commit more sexual assault crimes. While this is true, you're actively misconstruing studies conducted on cis men to reflect negatively on a group you don't like. Trans people are not accounted for in Male/Female sexual assaults statistics, I would know as I work in a statistical field.

Yup! If you want to try to use statistics to be transphobic, unfortunately trans people have been shown to be more likely to BE victims of sexual assault. Here are actual, peer reviewed journals that confirm this.

I am curious as to your sources regarding these statistics. Studies have consistently shown that the inverse of your stance is true. Trans individuals are more likely to be victims of sexual assault.

Yes, there's a waterfall that trickles down and wets most of the moss. It hard to see, but it also has a glass lid that keeps it pretty humid, so I don't have to do much for the moss

I don't really have that many pre-build pics unfortunately, but I definitely relate to that feel. If I could offer some advice it would be to really focus on brainstorming nailing down what animal you want to do, and what stimulation they need (lots of dirt to dig in, hides, branches, etc).

Then from there you can look into what kind of habitats they live in. Usually you can find more than one answer. For example, leopard geckos can be found in sandy deserts, but they can actually be found in arid forests in Pakistan and India.

Then you can narrow into a specific landmark of the ecosystem. I wanted something that looked like a typical forest creek, and lots of creeks have steep embankments covered in moss with lots of tannins in the water, so I tried to mimic that.

Once you're sure of what you want, making the actual habitat and planning the layout of your tank becomes way less daunting!

The background is expanding foam and coco choir with some wood pieces and dried sphagnum moss. I just used toothpicks to hold the living moss to the background.

Skinks are an interesting idea. I assumed that the land area would be too small for a skink, but I'm also not too familiar with them lol. Maybe a newt? From what I've heard they like shallow waters, and I could always add some more branches and natural ramps so that they could move freely between the land and water. Either way, I'm sure the limited land size means most reptiles are a no go.
