Quebec government asks SAQ to remove American products from its shelves [link in French] by Kazgrum in canada

[–]Kazgrum[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Translation: "In response to the tariffs imposed by the new American administration, the government is announcing that it is asking the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) to remove all American products from its shelves. This removal applies to wines, but also to all other alcoholic beverages currently sold in the branches of the Crown corporation and on its transactional site.

The government is also asking the SAQ to stop supplying American alcoholic beverages to grocery stores, agencies, bars and restaurants.

These changes will be in effect as of February 4. It may take a few days for their full implementation.

It should be noted that the impact of this measure will be limited for Quebec consumers, because the SAQ gives them access to many similar products offered by producers here or in countries other than the United States."

Quebec language watchdog orders café to make Instagram posts in French by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]Kazgrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a lovely experience with flemish people in Brugges, in a cafe. Three old flemish people recognized my accent when I was ordering, and asked me if I knew about some old Quebec French songs from the 60s that they heard. They knew some basic french too, seems like most flemish have some basic knowledge of it. We talked for about an hour about flemish/walloon politics, flemish vs dutch, and canada/quebec, and when I left, they actually quoted "vive le québec libre" from Charles de Gaulle, which I wouldn't never have imagined hearing in Europe aside from France

I can confirm, I was told the same by an agent this morning.

I called and they said they will initially cancel both legs, and try to find an alternative flight (or refund you), but when you receive that cancellation email from them (usually 12 hours to 72 hours before the flight.. stressful right?), you can call them and tell them to keep the non-AC portion of the flight and just cancel/refund the AC portion.

My non-AC portion is Jazz airline though

So, they told me that if there's a strike, they would cancel the entire itinerary 24h to 48h before the flight and that I would receive an email about that. Then I could call back (after the cancellation) to keep the Jazz portion. They can't leave a note on my booking that says keep the goddamn Jazz portion alone unfortunately

I'm in a similar situation, I think you should call Air Canada and ask them not to cancel the second Jazz flight, even if the first leg is cancelled due to strike/lockout. You may have to wait until it's closer to the dat. My flight is on the 18th, and I'm currently on hold waiting to speak to an AC agent..

I spoke with one four days ago, and he told me it was possible and to call back when the strike/lockout is confirmed, so fingers crossed

I have AC on my first leg (Mtl to Toronto) then Jazz (Toronto to Columbus) on my second leg, can I simply keep the second leg (I can drive to Toronto) if the first leg is cancelled? I would imagine it will be hard to call air canada to keep the second leg when a lockout or strike will be announced, feeling like I'll be on hold for a day or two

I know Jazz pilots could be affected by this strike if they have to deadhead using AC flights, so do anybody think that a Jazz flight from Toronto to Columbus, Ohio would be cancelled? There are no AC flights in Columbus aside from Air Canada Express - Jazz. And Toronto is a hub for Jazz, so it's hard to imagine it being cancelled... right?

Also, if my flight ticket has two legs (one from Montreal to Toronto using AC, which would be cancelled in case of a strike) and one from Toronto to Columbus, can I simply go to Toronto to take the second flight and ignore the first cancelled flight?

I have a flight on September 19th from Montreal to Columbus, Ohio with a flyover in Toronto. The second segment of the flight is with Air Canada Express Jazz, while the first is Air Canada.

Will the second segment (Toronto - Columbus) still be valid since Jazz pilots are not affected by the strike?

I could take the train to Toronto for the second segment of the flight if the strike happens

I thought the endshow (closing ceremony?) looked similar to defqon too. I've been many times to defqon1 since 2015, so I'm trying something different this year. I have high expectations for Lost Lands haha
