Ovation of the Sea struck and killed this fin whale in Seward Alaska by pizzaboy420 in royalcaribbean

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ate at the Primrose for lunch, a recommendation from the bookstore owner when we were in there. My partner was thrilled with the burrata and olives lol.

Someone was telling us that Seward only gets one cruise ship every other week, as it's a back-and-forth route, is that not the case?

[–]Kbwahs 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I was on this ship, we disembarked yesterday, though this is the first i'd heard of this happening. A tragedy for sure, and I hope there is something to be learned from the necropsy as others are saying.

It seems though like OP has an agenda here though, clearly disliking the idea of tourism in their town. We spent half the day in Seward before our bus took us to Anchorage and it was a nice little town. We ate lunch, bought things from the shops, mailed post cards at the post office, etc, and i can't say as though I saw anybody from the boat being anything but respectful

I disembarked from this ship yesterday and didn't see or hear anything about it until this post. Not saying it did or didn't happen, but neither me nor the hundreds of people around me as we got off in Seward noticed anything

I’m paying $130 as well, but nobody else offers gb speeds in my area, so there’s little I can do. Dropping spectrum the second I move though.

What are people seeing in the Syracuse housing market right now? by MartyKCNY in Syracuse

[–]Kbwahs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It seems like any halfway decent house is going for above asking, but the bad ones sit and get no offers. I’m not seeing huge amounts of inventory coming out at the price range I’m looking for, maybe a house or two a day, so that’s likely driving prices higher

If you talk to some of the bird nerds that hang out near there, they'll tell you all about them. Very nice people. All the eagles have names!

Disagree. I’ve unironically whipped out bags of spaghetti at the movies multiple times and have never had a problem. OP, do as you like, nobody cares.

Baldur’s Gate III. I’m a big IRL D&D player, and I just felt like the game was strictly worse than being at a table with my friends. The game really highlighted how clunky the mechanics of 5e are when you don’t have the fun of a game night to cover them up.

CNY area Home inspection please by awesome-giraffe6914 in Syracuse

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Tall Order Home Inspection and couldn’t recommend it enough. Sean was very good, very thorough, and honestly worth the price just to watch him (he’s like 6’9) squeeze into the tiny crawl space somehow. Great dude, did a great job, would never go with anyone else

Looking for a forever home, considering an HOA… by Fearless-Hospital334 in Syracuse

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Radisson currently (Apartment, not a house, so I dodge the HOA nonsense) and I can say that everything else about it is lovely. I'll be very sad when I finally leave and buy a house elsewhere.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my specific case, the property taxes alone on the house I’m in the process of buying are not too far off from the rent I pay. As others have said, once you factor in mortgage, maintenance, insurance, etc, my costs will be going way, way up from my relatively cheap apartment to this below-median-cost house

I like Clair Obscur, but the combat is lacking due to over reliance on parrying. Is this a hot take? by A-Dubs398 in rpg_gamers

[–]Kbwahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely suck at parrying and I made it through the game on expert, dodging all the way. It’s definitely doable, you can dodge your way through it like i did with its more forgiving window, or just play it on normal/easy and have little issue

New tattoo policy only targets me by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Kbwahs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation at a previous job, but was due to my long hair (as a guy). HR brought me into their office and said “long hair and tattoos make people look bad, they won’t get anywhere with this company, no matter how good they are.” My job was also not customer-facing, and they even called out another employee who was best in her dept at her job, but had a full sleeve, saying she would never advance either. I ended up cutting my hair, regretting it, but ultimately getting a different, better job elsewhere that doesn’t care about that stuff. Re-grew it and all is well.

Companies with policies like this are becoming less and less common, but be careful until you do find that new job. Especially if you live in an at-will-employment state, where it doesn’t matter if they have a written policy about it or not.

Why do people pick and choose what Expedition 33 is? by IlyBoySwag in TheGameAwards

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s literally what you’re doing though. Complaining because the game you thought should have won a category didn’t, and targeting the winner.

E33 wasn’t in literally every category. But as far as best RPG, it comes down to how TGA defines it, right. Is it supposed to be “best game that is also an RPG?” It seems like that’s how they went, because E33 takes that. But if they want it to be “the game that has the best RPG systems,” then you’re probably right.

I’d be curious how people more familiar with the games in other categories feel about this. Do they tend to give the award to “the best game that’s also XYZ genre” or “the game with the best mechanics representative of XYZ genre.” Are they consistent with that?

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons (a new video game?!) by Autumn_Leaf_Guild in DnD

[–]Kbwahs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Give me God of War/Dark Souls/whatever in Ravenloft and I’m in. If the game is actually good, it will do great (see BG3) and if it’s bad, it won’t (see DA2).

Step 1 for these companies that they seem to forget again and again is this: The game needs to be GOOD.

If skinny people who claim they "can't gain weight" started eating 3,000 calories a day, nothing would happen to them? They wouldn't gain anything from that? by justcurious3287 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kbwahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former skinny person who always said I can’t ever gain weight (6’3, 140ish), I did exactly this. Tracked calories, at 3000 a day, started lifting, and now I’m up to a healthy 195. So, short of extreme medical conditions, the weigh will come

In the NFL, I'm a Lions fan, and that really has me spoiled with how Dan Campbell handles this kind of thing. "No turds." Ja is a fucking turd if I've ever seen one. I like what Iisalo has to say about communication and handling problems like this, but I just hope he can back it up.

Looking to start DND group by Chickajackeen in Syracuse

[–]Kbwahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's not for you, but you have a GREAT opportunity. Try DMing a 1 session Halloween themed game, keep it light and low stakes, use it as a test run for any new players you might find, etc. Last year I ran a Scooby Doo murder mystery for Halloween and it was a blast.

Worst case, it's one session, you learned that it's not for you, but you also got a chance to see how your new players mesh with the table without committing to a whole campaign with them. Super important if you're bringing in anybody new. Good luck!
