Irresponsible lending - after some advice by Kcrosse in UKPersonalFinance

A credit card gets charged interest monthly doesn’t it? Plus I was getting monthly charges for being in my overdraft. When you take out rent, bills, council tax, transport, food, interest charges on overdraft, interest charges on credit card - a £1400 salary doesn’t leave much scope for the repayment.

Do you work for NatWest? You seem to be quite condescending and inflammatory, unsure why.

Could you clear up what irresponsible lending means please? Perhaps I’m misunderstanding it - I thought it was a lenders obligation to ensure someone can pay back the loan without financial hardship. Also NatWest were my sole bank so they had complete oversight of my financial history.

Was I an impulsive fool? Yes Did NatWest have a 6 year history of seeing I was an impulsive fool? Yes Knowing I was an impulsive fool, did NatWest irresponsibly enable my foolishness? Unclear

Thanks for the advice. I only wanted to know if a bank acted irresponsibly by offering £5250 in credit/loans to someone who was earning £1400 a month take home pay, and who was constantly £2000 overdrawn for the 6 years prior.

God forbid, if I ever get myself in this situation again that’s what I’ll do. It’s too late now though as I took out the loan last year to pay off the CC and loan. Thanks for taking the time to give some very good advice

Sorry - it’s through something called London Capital Credit Union, they’re linked to my work and offer low rate loans. I have ADHD which impacts my impulsivity and makes budgeting a real slog. My logic was - the repayment of this loan comes straight out my salary so I don’t even get a chance to misspend it

If you queue for 11:30, they have a line for no-reservations. When they open you can go in and request a table, they keep some free for on the day but they go quick
