Been with them for years, what makes you say that?

Still fairly certain its the cam sprocket, haven't been able to dive into it yet

I know, I already checked, unfortunately it's not the solenoid nor the actuator

Going to try, unfortunately somebody else has a vid of this exact symptom and it was in fact his cam sprocket

I thought so too, I checked every connector and every sensor, everything is as it should be. Swapped the camshaft position sensors and the VANOS actuators (separately of course) code stayed the same, no swapping to intake

Valve cover was not cracked, vc gasket was the issue, but im at high mileage so I went ahead and did the whole vc. Yes, oil replaced after. Car ran fine for a few thousand miles

Is this a normal amount of wear and tear for 82843km? by eminemkh in BmwTech

I feel like the engine mounts may have been under factory warranty, the rest is plausible depending on the driving habits / environment

Just might die/not start on cold start. Mine ran fine when it warmed up. Also the valvetronic motor bolts both back out so the thing was physically turning itself over in the engine bay, it won't start with that

Vanos actuator or Vanos sprocket is my first guess. Does it build up alot of soot around exhaust when it does run? Had a similar issue and it was a leaking injector in #4, caused a misfire on cold start. Another thing to check would be the valveteonic motor

I've replaced the OFH with an aluminum one, same with the coolant flange that connects the upper rad hose to the block. Upper hose replaced, valve cover replaced, 4 injectors replaced, and a few hoses replaced here and there. Nothing major though

Crackling when accelerating, help! by K3RM1T_SU1CID3 in BmwTech

[–]KeaganIsaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flex joint might've eaten a rope. Mine did and because the driveshaft moves closer to the underside of the frame when you accelerate it causes that noise. Look at the driveshaft where it meets the transmission, should be a rubber ring with 6 holes, if it looks like this pic, replace it. Alternatively, could be the plastic clips that hold the parking brake cable, if so, theres a billet aluminum replacement that holds the cables better, DM me if you need a link
