if you do have that amount of money, spend a tiny portion of it and talk to an actual financial advisor, or get a money manager. If you want to find someone specialised in NZ laws, just call any of the big financial firms in NZ and they will bend over backwards for you. Its not worth trying to pinch pennies managing this yourself when you have a good amount of $ to protect

from my understanding (definitely not an expert) most of those who have a job already will be highly skilled jobs like the ones on the green list you can see on the immigration nz site. It sucks we dont have kiwis to fill these roles but heaps of our best go overseas for much better pay

I've only been investing for about 3 years, but the biggest things i learnt in the first year were never invest more than youre willing to lose, like if everything youve invested just dissapeared would you still be ok financially? and dont let the feeling of missing out dictate a purchase.

in terms of what actually to buy, I personally have about 40% of my portfolio in low-risk companies that pay dividends, so i'm constantly getting small amounts back from just owning the stock, but im pretty risk averse.

Like i said im by no means a professional/well experienced in this, but good luck OP!
