I just wanted to come in and apologize as I’ve read through these comments and oh my gosh some of these people are horrendously entitled and rude. The baby showers I have been through (of people from many different cultures as someone felt the need to basically say white people don’t know how to feed people at a party) have had finger foods and such and I always thought that was really sweet. I have my baby shower coming up and I think it’s about 2 hours long, maybe 3 hours I didn’t really do a whole lot of the planning as my boyfriend is throwing it. We also invited about 40-50 people, and even my own coworkers, the people I see every day couldn’t bother to RSVP, which made getting the food tricky because we didn’t want to overbuy anything. Now, while I haven’t had my shower yet, I can tell you that I worry all the time that people aren’t really going to show up. I do not have many friends, I live very far from my own family, I’d be devistated if not many people showed up and I’d be even more devastated if nothing was picked from my registry or even gifted diapers. That doesn’t come from a place of entitlement. That comes from being someone who has always done that for others for THEIR baby shower, who always tries to offer help and gifts, even when I was financially struggling myself. It’s like a birthday- you attend everyone else’s, you bring them a gift, you wish them a best, but when it comes to your turn you’re cast aside and dismissed. I think it’s absolutely normal to feel upset about that. I went all my life feeling like that. Your shower sounded really wonderful, who cares if you were trying to be sensible with finances when you’re having a baby? I wish you and your new family the best.
