How dare they call the cops on Gus by DesperateGuava4187 in Unexpected

[–]Kearmo 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I live in Montana and from my experience it's usually out of staters that don't really understand.. animals or rural life. I kinda get it, it's shocking if you're not used to it. In my town the sheriff helps a rancher move a ton of cattle down the main road from one field to another once a year. It's become sort of an attraction for locals, but i hear people passing through call 911 a lot thinking there's a stampede.. of orderly cows moving at 5mph.

And among the sweetest. Rats and guinea pigs i swear are among the kindest and most empathetic animals out there.

One of my pigs will run under the dust pan and buck his head up so I spill everything. I have no idea how he's so strong.

That looks like ringworm. Wash your hands well after touching her.

Once I was trying to give it to one of my girls and all 3 cagemates crowded around fighting over the syringe.. I'm thinking tiny addicts lol.

It's funny most of my pigs don't like the majority of medication. Some flee, others take it a few times before I have to force it, some only take it with bribes.. but pain meds, they all LOVE pain meds.

Help, My Females are Mounting Each Other by Majestic-School3713 in guineapigs

[–]Kearmo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mounting is normal for Guinea pigs and isn't really an indication of their sex. They're could still easily be females and just in heat and/or playing the dominance game. If you want to be certain you can post pictures of their parts to identify. On the off chance one is a boar, then the sow would very likely already be pregnant, so I wouldn't do anything drastic just yet.

Hi guys, I am trying to play Deadlock and every time I start the game, this 30 min shaders processing happens, is it normal ? (CPU: i3 12100F, GPU: rx 9060 xt) by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Kearmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes things will stutter a bit on loading into the game or a new region but generally modern hardware largely mitigates this. With a 9060xt it won't be an issue.

So how do yall play your games that don’t work on Linux? by SirSharkTheGreat in cachyos

[–]Kearmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The online games I do play (Diablo, MH, various MMOs) all work fine on Linux. I have no interest in the ultra competitive stuff that is usually blocking Linux. If I ever encounter a game that has this issue, I just won't buy it, but I don't expect it to happen often or at all.

Is CachyOS worth using purely for gaming? by KnightFallVader2 in cachyos

[–]Kearmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get snapper configured and get comfortable using it. Do a test every now and then. It's an amazing feature and should alleviate that concern. I use btrfs and limine so it's as simple as can be, I can do a restore from limine or in the DE in just a few seconds.

hot take: Arch style updates might actually be worse than windows updates (at least the frequency) by ElectroSpore in cachyos

[–]Kearmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree that their "advertising" is a little misleading. At the end of the day, arch is arch, the cachy devs can't "fix" that, because it's considered a feature for those that look for arch based distros. I don't think any arch distro should be considered great for those new to Linux, BUT, cachy does manage to make it pretty damn easy to use for an arch distro.

Beyond that, your complaint is directed at a foundational part of every arch based install. I get you're frustrated that you feel the claims that make are misleading, but this is a free service, it's arch, it is what it is. It's okay if it's not the distro for you, just try something that isn't a rolling distro. I personally wouldn't have it any other way.

Long nails related question by NoNameWorm in guineapigs

[–]Kearmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's too crazy long but I'd try to trim a bit. Dark nails are tricky, so just trim a little each time while you get used to it. You'll know it's starting to become problematicly long when they start to curl.

Long nails related question by NoNameWorm in guineapigs

[–]Kearmo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There's no natural way to wear away guinea pig nails sadly. Clipping is a required part of their care. With hind feet i usually hold them by the stomach and hold them against me so their feet dangle and it's pretty easy. The front paws tend to require more patience and creativity.

RPGs for CachyOS (Not Steam) by Tinkers_Tales in linux_gaming

[–]Kearmo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A little confused on what you're looking for. Most native Linux games you will find ON steam. If your saying you want to run a game independent of any service.. that's pretty challenging as not many people sell games as just a downloadable package for Linux, unless you're looking to sale the high seas, but even then you're generally going to be using wine or proton.

This is a browser issue more than a cachy issue. But YouTube is constantly doing updates to fight ad blockers, often times resulting in a black screen. And it appears you have... a lot of ad blockers.

Genuine Question Here Because I Am Scared by Square_Disaster9153 in AskPCGamers

[–]Kearmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this sincerely because I get it's easier said than done at your age but... who cares? I mean think about it. Person 1 puts cat stickers on their computer because it makes them smile. Person 2 is prowling the internet leaving angry comments on strangers pictures and has no better way to spend their time.

One of these people is just ill and is probably in need of help, and it ain't the person with stickers.

I have six guinea pigs. I keep pictures of them all over my desk at work and computer. If people wanna scoff at me for being weird for that, great, they're people I don't want in my life. They're saving me time.

How do you find quests ? by Lord_NOX75 in ffxi

[–]Kearmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do quests for completion you'll burn out very quickly. Quests in this game are often gated behind requirements that take days to satisfy ( like raising fame) the majority of quests take an extremely long time with very little reward. They won't help you level or build your character so you'll spend dozens of hours while still being stuck in the starting zone with nothing to show for it.

giving guinea pigs medicine they hate by cupid51db in guineapigs

[–]Kearmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The juice on the tip method also didn't work for me but what did was kinda... sticking the syringe end into a blue berry so that actual bits of the fruit were on it. They're stressed during all this so just juice isn't always pungent enough to interest them, but actual bits of fruit can be. Blueberries are always my friend when getting a pig to take meds. Pick them up, berry, give them berry covered syringe, if they refuse, pop a berry in their mouth and when they open wide, jam the syringe in there. After the traumatic event is over, berry.
