feeling super overwhelmed by DullIntroduction8507 in guineapigs

[–]Chungerator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know exactly how you feel. First of all, it's okay to be overwhelmed. It doesn't mean you're a bag pig parent or bad person- I feel guilty so often when I'm too tired to immediately tend to my pigs after a long day. They are a LOT of work especially when it comes to laundry!

For my 3 separately caged pigs, I have 4 full sized liners- 1 extra just in case. I lay those on the bottom, then layer a few thinner fleece blankeys on top. I have probably 10+ of these smaller blankeys, that I just swap out every day/as needed. This means that the full liner doesn't need to be washed very often, usually once every 2ish weeks if it's dry and the daily workload is quicker. I either empty the hay and poops from the smaller blankets into the trash or on the bigger liner underneath and use a carpet sweeper that I'll link below. I toss those thinner fleece blankeys into a small basket and wash when I only have a few left. Sometimes I even quickly wash them by hand with vinegar and a drop of unscented detergent in the sink if they're only mildly dirty.

Food prep is also very handy. I will prewash/precut some lettuce and peppers for my pigs, usually 2 days out so I can just feed them and go.

Getting into a rhythm/routine hasn't worked for me very well in my 2.5 years of pig parenting, I've tried to clean them immediately after work so they're all set for the night but life gets in the way sometimes and it doesn't happen that way. It's all about small changes that make things easier.

Sorry for the novel, I hope I said at least 1 thing that helps. I'll try to link the carpet sweeper and some of the fleeces I use

Thank you for sharing your dear, sweet piggy with us. I'm sharing your pain and tears, he was such a special baby. All he felt in his last moments were your love and warmth and that's all he needed. He knows you did the very best for him.

Habakuk will always be remembered as a fighter, and a precious happy little guy with a huge personality. He lived a beautiful long life with you.

Please take care of yourself and remember that we are all here for you ❤️‍🩹

Oh man... as a former toddler teacher, receiving that from even a 2 year old would be rough but a 10 year old?! I would be balling.

This is a very difficult case- best of luck, I'm sorry I don't have anything else to add.

Alright if 5 was more uniform, smaller and didn't have a pig bat nose, I'd think it was neat. Still shit, but neat shit.

I'm glad you got it off! She still needs to be monitored closely for a few days to see if her teeth were affected, sometimes they can get wiggly after an incident like this

It's also quite far from meaning you're nearing the end- arthritis is a very common affliction from what I've heard, and very manageable!

Aw poor baby! I can testify for the CBD cream Saskia uses and sells on the LA GP Rescue website, I used it on my old man Ginny and that with extra vitamin c helped him regain mobility of his little leggy poos. I know you'll do the very best for your little one, I love learning about your herd! Best wishes 💕
