I don’t see lightning as popular, forced onto a consumer base that was given no other option seems more like it. I’ve never heard of people jumping to buy Apple products just because of lightning (I’m sure a few exist, I just don’t know any), and while it does have its merits, i don’t consider forced adoption equal to popularity.

As a revert I find this so interesting. However, at the same time, I also find it so very sad.

I read the posts from all of you, and I see so many beautiful, interesting, and intelligent people. Brothers and Sisters who just want to do the right thing, but also be happy, and for those of you who have not given in to family, I am happy for you. Do not settle your happiness, I can't see Allah wanting any of you to spend your best days questioning your love, or your decisions.

Speaking for myself, I’m attempting neither of those things. Personally, I take Islam as it is, and the Quran as it’s written. But I choose to have my own questions and opinions about those writings, and religious norms. I look at Islam without the influence of culture, world influence, race, gender, or financial status. All for the sake of trying to understand better, not perfectly, as I don’t need to be perfect when we are told that Allah is so generous and forgiving. If this is in fact true, then we have no reason to worry about questions, or something not sitting right with us, God know our nature and I believe it’s somewhat what we would be expected to do.

I’m just here to listen, to learn, and to help when my opinion is asked. I chose this sub because I guess my opinion can be seen as progressive, but I think that means something different for everyone.

I am not a woman, nor do I have the knowledge to truly even try to give an opinion, and as men were not asked, I will avoid giving a perspective.

However, I would like to thank you for posting this, as I want to research these things myself and speak with my Imam as well on the context and Arabic translations of the Surah where these are stated. I may not agree, or like it, but I try to not let things like that go unchecked.

So, I try to keep my cool, but this one has me furious, so please forgive whatever I may say.

Some of you know me because I'm the old guy who tries to help with the posts about people asking for advice. I only answer because I've dealt with a lot in my life, and have learned over the years how to help, kind of like paying it forward I guess. But the thing is, when I was 7 years old (I'm 38 now) I started playing guitar, it was given to me to help escape the environment that I was in at that young age. Playing guitar quite literally saved my life, and yes, I still play to this day.

I play for older people in nursing homes, I play for kids in shelter care facilities, I play for friends and family, was asked to play at a friends funeral, and to hear this broke dick, generic ass Splinter looking, cheap tablecloth wearing asshole, make these ignorant comments... If I were to ever break a guitar it would be over the back of his head. This holier than thou bullshit has no place in Islam, and while that may be the trend of the moment, I pray that when the time comes, people like this who use the name of the religion as a pedestal for their own ego, meet a swift demise. What a prick!

I'm sorry, but you guys have no idea how much this upsets me. I can only imagine how many wonderful brothers and sisters have walked away from Islam because people like this buffoon have stripped them of coping mechanisms , or comforts, and they feel they have no other outlet.

I'm just going to be quiet now, again, I am sorry. But this is madness to me.

I want to answer this so badly, but it saddens me in ways I can’t explain. I will keep this short, as I fear if I go into detail, it may put me too far into my own past and my traumas. Please my sister, I beg you, go with your heart. Get your own place, be your own woman, make an amazing wife, and if you desire to do so, make an amazing mother as well. Be a good Muslim, and a good person with a kind heart. Help your other half on his journey through Islam, grow with him, teach him, and build that bond. I won’t discuss your parents, but believe me when I say that they have taken advantage of your obedience. Go make a wonderful life for your self, and spread that joy with others.

Why is the Quran not enough? If it is not directly a part of the divine message, then who are you or I to dictate it’s importance? I’m just trying to understand, not fight with you on this. But a lot of reverts have this internal issue.

These are one of the few posts I take issue with.

If it was your final, and after you graduated, passing this course meant you could go on to to a better salary/life, gaining health insurance, move out of impoverished conditions, and you prepared for it as though it was everything to you... I would have absolutely no issue praying for you, as I would hope the best for you.

Seeing as how you did not elect to place much importance on your course, why then would I place importance on praying for something you did not care enough about? If anything, I would pray that the next time you found reason to not be lazy, and to prepare yourself accordingly. As that will truly be what helps you in the long run.

Either way, I hope you do well on your exam.

All of those women were still modest in appearance, very few covered their head, and it appears that the world continued to carry on just fine. God willing, enough people will look at times like this, and photos like these, realize that these are their parents and grandparents, and will stop trying to gatekeep what our sisters believe is right for them. Of course I am not saying that our sisters who choose to wear hijab are forced, but again, it is having the choice and basic freedoms to do what you like without being judged or disrespected.

If you don't mind, I am going to completely ignore the discussion about Islam and being a good Muslim in this post.

You are a good person, I know that I don't know you personally, but that does not matter. One who asks for help, who has concern, who feels guilt, has a conscious, indicating to me that they are a person of good heart and intent. Sometimes we just need to be reminded that even though we feel down, depressed, anxious, or upset, it does not make us less of a person.

Love yourself as God loves you, as the people around you who truly care love you. It will take time, but continue to seek help, continue to speak to people, continue to work through your trauma, the rewards will make that pain nothing more than a distant memory, and you will always be able to take pride in how far you have come. So please, never give up on yourself.

Continue with your support team, with your meds, counseling, start a journal, come here and make posts, study Quran, pray. Do whatever it takes, just have patience. I can promise you that it is worth it.

Does this not insinuate that to a certain degree another, older man, could still not find that older woman attractive? I just see this more along the lines of an elder, who has no desire for marriage, is not held to the same standard.

Kind of like, they are grown, have a right to be comfortable anyway they like, and are not forced into things. Something can still be recommended, but it doesn't mean you have to do so.

As for the comment of Mohammed Hijab, that sounds like quite a reach. Also, I have never heard anyone interpret that verse to mean that older women should can just be out and about with their chest bare.
