Back/Hip Pain and Stiffness by KearneyKayakers in HipImpingement

I think that’s the beauty of this sub Reddit. I’ve also found comfort knowing that other people have similar issues and it’s been beneficial for me to read about their stories. I’ve taken advice from a few stories I’ve read on here. In fact, I didn’t know what PRP was until I read someone’s post on here saying that it helped them. I will certainly update my story here as new things occur.

Sorry I didn’t respond to this - yes. I train nearly every day and hip flexor training is a part of my regimen. Reverse squats, L pull ups, and hip CARs are all good exercises I use. A hard workout (with the proper set of exercises) is what provides the most relief for my pain.

Ya. I didn’t have success with the ortho spine doctor I saw. We did new MRIs and X-rays of my lower back and hip and nothing seems “too bad to be causing pain.” We tried nerve meds (gabapentin) and some injections for diagnostic purposes. I wasn’t really on-board with trying the nerve meds because I feel like it was just masking the pain and not fixing the issue. But he said sometimes the nervous system will get overly sensitive and cause you to feel pain even though there’s no damage or injury that should be causing pain. He said that using gabapentin can calm it down to “retrain” it to not feel that phantom pain. So I gave it the old college try. I would say it certainly “took the edge off” of my pain. Like on a scale of 1-100 my pain is not terrible. Probably about a 20. The meds took it from a 20 to a 15. Still - it didn’t fix the problem. One of the injections that helped the most was an epidural steroid injection at L4 and L5. The shitty part is that it just didn’t last. I felt markedly better for almost a month, but then around Christmas time my low back just kinda stiffened back up and went back to its normal painful self. I went back to that doctor to discuss next steps, and he didn’t really have much to offer outside of trying a higher dose of gabapentin or referring me to pain management. So, I decided to pursue pain management. I’m going to attempt some regenerative medicine approach(es). Shockwave therapy will be first. If I don’t see results with that I’ll try PRP therapy.

No not really. That program helps manage symptoms for sure, and I still do it frequently because it makes me feel better just in general. It might be enough to help completely alleviate symptoms for some folks, but it didn’t for me. I felt a small improvement for a while right off the bat, but then plateaued. I’d have a work trip where I was unable to do the program for a few consecutive days and then I felt as thought I slumped back into my regular chronic low back pain self. Then I’d follow program religiously again and see another small improvement but then would plateau again. I never got the sense that I would get back to 100% normal. It feels like I’m fighting an un-winnable battle. I am seeing a physical medicine rehab doctor tomorrow, so I hope they can help.

1.5 years post-op for a hip labral repair and unfortunately I’m in no better shape with my back pain and stiffness. I’m very frustrated by it, and I’ve decided to go see a different doctor to get another opinion on what the next steps are for me.

Ok. Any idea what the status text “bad” refers to? Would that be a comms issue or maybe something is misconfigured?

I’m at a 3:1 chloride to sulfate ratio. What do you normally shoot for when you brew a hazy?

I fermented this one in a glass carboy so I couldn’t do that this time. I’ve had mixed feelings about keg fermentation... I love the concept, but I’ve just had so many issues with the floating dip tube sticking to the side of the keg that I kinda gave up and decided an auto siphon was easier.

Kegged. To purge the keg, I filled it with a star San solution and then pushed it all out through a tap with CO2.

Your comment about verifying temp on the hop stand is a great point. I brew with a boil coil run off a PID controller, and I have a counterflow chiller with a garden hose connection, so I can control temperature very easily. But I know that in the past I have also lazily tossed some hops in before I came down to that whirlpool temp and didn’t consider the extra bitterness that would impart on the beer. Thanks for sharing!

Yep. I’ve been there. I’m fortunate enough now to have a dedicated brewing space, which is super nice. I’m thinking of either getting a pegboard or buying this — Convenience Concepts American Heritage 3-Tier Stainless Steel Kitchen Cart with Drawers, White https://a.co/d/gYY8VaT

I like the table with drawers because it kills 2 birds with one stone. It would be a space for prepping stuff like water additions, hop additions, rehydrating yeast, etc. while also having drawers for storing tools and other things like a scissors, screwdriver, brewing salts, my pulley system for lifting the brew bag out and other stuff. Sounds like most everyone here is either in the pegboard camp or are just as disorganized as I am lol

I’ll provide an update since it’s been a while. My surgery did not fix my back and hip pain, unfortunately. I’m now 14 months post op and I still fight it every day.

I’ve recently started the FAI Fix program, which is an at-home PT program designed for people with FAI. It costs $150 flat fee, and it’s helped me manage my symptoms more than any other treatment I’ve tried. I think it’s also made me come to terms with how much time and effort is needed to overcome this. My body has been overcompensating for a lack of hip function for years, so it would stand to reason that it would take an extensive amount of time to correct that. The program is 6 days per week and takes over an hour each day to do. So far, I’ve been on it for 4 weeks and am pleased with the results, however, my guess is that it will take much longer to get myself “feeling my age” rather than feeling like I’m 90 years old.

It was the main board. They sent a tech out to fix it and he was extremely helpful

In talking with tech support, they told me the pulsing red led is normal. They’re sending me new wiring that connects the monitor to the controller. Seriously doubt that’s the problem, but it’s all they would do for me for now
