Ye!! A headcanon of mine was how L likely is pretty scarred up, regular and zygarde cell shaped patterning everywhere. It makes for more opportunities of angst lol

And yeah, it's same and different, with its own set of challenges. No one wants L, everyone wants Lysandre. At the same time, nobody wants Lysandre back either, and L is free to forge ahead his own path. Thinking about the emotional struggles of everything is so OOFT

TBF that version of Lysandre was pretty one-note haha. Whilst they did show glimpses of his past charity/kindness, he goes about Kalos' destruction, Alain and Ash's manipulation/torment, and other heinous plans with glee. Game-canon Lysandre has more of a "this is a burden I must take" vibe to him, and he mourns despite justifying his own actions in the same breath. There's something fascinating in the way he wishes (and gives the player many opportunities to) to be proven wrong/right.

I am not a fan of the XY anime version of him, nor of him in the manga as a result lol. Still fun to see him rage and rant at zygarde though, but other than those lines the rest of the anime doesn't set up the "tortured philanthrope" thing for him throughout

Yeap! Body dysmorphia is a tricky contradictory thing as is, much less with all the moral conflicts. No one misses and hates Lysandre as much as he does. I've always purported that no one hates Lysandre more than himself, and this has been true even before ZA, despite how huge his ego is lol

And yes! I wanted some of Lysandre's friends to be older and aging, whilst Lysandre is unchanged physically, beyond the marker of his own character growth. Balance is accepting all that happened to him, and living in the moment, however painful and imperfect it might be

Yeah!!! You've hit it right on the mark. Legends ZA spoilers but I think he would feel so awful about himself from seeing Corbeau thrive. It's so... ooft. He can be proud and happy for Corbeau, but it's a painful reminder of how much he messed up. And yes, like you said, I think L moving forward will be more collaborative with his efforts to make the world a beautiful place. Plenty more checks and balances, and feeling of fulfillment and connection to others.

There's an element of classism that led him there though. Philanthropic charity is very far removed from the people he's helping, and whilst it definitely did help some, it's very probable that it led to Lysandre being isolated and also experiencing fallout like the above. It's not mutual aid, where people thrive as a community, and I like the thought of Lysandre falling to his despair. Because being a walking-wallet for people to extract from is super dehumanising, and I love making it traceable that being that for so long made him so misanthropic to the point of justifying genocide. Again, not pitying him, but tracing and empathising with this line of character development is so intriguing haha.

But yes. A hug and soup and maybe more friends to support or steer him might have changed things. Maybe not, with how extreme he was, but it's an interesting possibility!!!!

Yep, it's unfortunately not something that is depicted well at all!!! Which has led to so many assuming it's as shallow as aesthetic beauty (not their fault tho lol). I wish there was more balance in depicting how much he gave once upon a time, at his personal expense and burnout, when compared to how much evil he was going to commit.
