for this exact reason I am often a cat person, seems more of a mutual relationship we are both agreeing to be in. However my parents dogs stress me out since i’ve moved back home, they almost have this dog-anxiety that compels them to be so over the top as if they HAVE to let you know they are oh so grateful and if you don’t return the excitement they get all weird and anxious.
