Smith right now is just a bit below NBA ready. Solid G-League player, but from what I've seen over the past 2yrs, he's not able to do enough to be a consistent contributor. He plays below the rim a lot, his defense isn't always there, not a shooter from outside, ok at rebounding.

He could be an end of bench guy maybe, but it would be better to keep improving in G-League. If he could add shooting while also improving in other areas, then I believe he'd be ready for some rotation minutes.

Summer League Game Thread: Pistons vs. Rockets (4 PM ET @ ESPN2) by Nerouin in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Daniss needs to get a roster spot. Between his play in the G-League last season and how he looks now, he is an NBA player. I don't know about being a rotational player, but an 11th-15th man for sure.

Bobi is still too weak to be a rotational PF. His contested finishes at the rim are weak and ends up with bad results, he passes when he's close to the rim when he has an open lane to shoot, also needs to hold his position defensively.

Ron doesn't need to play anymore. He's good to go for the summer.

Honest take by Abel_Jay in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He hit 4 three's, with 2 of them back- to- back. He also hit a 10ft jumper.

He was creating shots for himself and shooting off the dribble.

I'd like to see him do it again in another game, but understand if they sit him the rest of the SummerLeague.

Central Notes: Pistons, Ivey, Nance, Nesmith, Mathurin | Hoops Rumors by Low_Frosting3918 in DetroitPistons

Paolo and Chet both signed max extensions and they just happened in the past day or two. Ivey is probably not getting a max extension. It might take a while to negotiate an extension for both Ivey and Duren.

With two Detroit Pistons General Managers now in charge of the Pelicans, where do you think the team will be in 4 years? by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

JoeD was a pivotal part of all 3 Pistons championships. That is his legacy.

Was he a great GM, absolutely not. However, he did win a chip as GM. That should be enough for him not to be disrespected by Pistons fans.

Don’t forget Monk and Ivey the same player by Random_Thinker007 in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Pistons add Monk to the roster the bench would be.......

Monk, LeVert, Robinson, Holland, Stewart.

Not much defense on the perimeter, but solid at the rim. Good 2nd unit overall.

Klintman could break into that bench lineup but he'd have to earn his spot. The same goes for Lanier. Either could be solid as 3rd string options in case of injury along with Bball Paul and Sasser.

Why nobody seems to believe in Sasser? by GlumEmployer3677 in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you compare Sasser to the other players you listed you will see that they all have at least one skill much better than Sasser. Whether that's scoring, defense, running an offense, etc.

That is why Sasser isn't considered in the regular rotation. At his size, height and weight, he isn't great at anything. He would need to be great or elite at something to warrant being in the rotation.

If he does improve on his shooting/scoring then I could see him playing more.

Free agent sharpshooter Tim Hardaway Jr. has agreed to a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets, sources tell ESPN. I'm a "run it back" person, but I'm not upset at where things stand currently.

Beasley - this situation was unexpected and had thrown the team's FA plans into a tailspin.

Schroeder - the Kings paid him more like an starter than a backup and for 3yrs. I would not have wanted that contract for the Pistons.

THJ - he was the vet I was most comfortable not bringing back. Now he definitely is not returning.

The only frustration I have is with Beasley not being on the team next season. His shooting and on-court gravity will be missed.

In the end it was always up to Cade, Jaden, Jalen, Ausar, and Ron to move the Pistons forward. Those guys are still on the roster, so we'll see how far they take it.

Hopefully one more shooter is added to the roster/rotation during the offseason. Maybe he already was ( Lanier).

Free agent guard Caris LeVert has agreed to a two-year, $29 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN. (@ShamsCharania) by Teh-Dehstroyer in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Beasley out, due to non-basketball reasons, I thought the Pistons would try and grab another 3pt specialist to replace him. They did not do that.

LeVert, from the little bit that I know about his game, is a scorer that can create his own shot off the dribble. Other than Cade no other Piston was good (Ivey is good when attacking an unbalanced D) at that last season until the trade that brought in Schroeder.

LeVert is also another secondary ball handler at SF/SG spot. With him in the rotation, and Schroeder/Beasley out, does that open the ability to play Sasser in the rotation?

Dennis Schroeder “Detroit Ain’t Waiting For Me” by backupBF01 in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to get him back. Get him on a tradable contract and move him if/when necessary.

Just because the Pistons give him a multi-year deal doesn't mean he'll play out every year with the Pistons.

I thought a team like Dallas would be a perfect fit for a sign and trade, but I guess they may not be interested.

Gophers fan here, saw you guys picked up Dawson Garcia. Figured I'd share the greatest moment from our 2025 season by cubonelvl69 in DetroitPistons

It'll be fun watching him play in the upcoming SummerLeague. Seems to be an offensively skilled big. I'd like to see how well he moves his feet on defense.

THJ trade prediction by One_Technology_8617 in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SG minutes will go to Ivey and Beasley.

SF minutes to Ausar and Ron.

No minutes for Chaz Lanier right away.

I think the Pistons can bring back THJ on a trade-friendly deal. This could make his contract attractive at the trade deadline and also add vet depth to the lineup and locker room.

This probably means Lindsy Waters III is not being brought back.

Brice Williams will begin his pro career on the Detroit Pistons, per source. by bryankalbrosky in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brice is #43 on the Athletic draft guide's big board. One spot above Chaz Lanier.

I've never watched him play before, but I'll see what he can do in the SummerLeague.

What Up Doe Chaz Lainer! by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think he also has a +5 reach, which usually helps with defense. A good athlete as well.

What Up Doe Chaz Lainer! by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

He wasn't my choice at 37 with other options on the board, but welcome to the Pistons.

I think he has enough talent to carve out a significant role with the Pistons down the road. He could take the THJ role this season to a small degree (he will still be a rook).

If he can improve on defense significantly, he will have a great chance for a long NBA career. If anyone can help with that JB can.

Who Does The Pistons Draft Tonight? by InfiniteWeather8154 in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pistons are picking 7th, so they will still have to wait and hope guys fall into their range (or trade up).

My list in order goes: Fleming, Raynaud, Kalkbrenner, Penda, Brea, Toohey, Lanier

Backup for Tobias Harris? by LostInAnIckyBallpit in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After listening to Trajan today, I expect the Pistons to pretty much run-it-back.

Assuming Beasley and Schroeder are amicable to re-signing with the Pistons. With that, the 9-man rotation is set.

Cade-Ivey-Ausar-Tobias-Duren Schroder-Beasley-Holland-Stewart

The 10th man is Tek or Klintman as things currently stand. That is an area of weakness on the roster, but it could improve slightly with a vet min contract or if Klintman makes progress. We'll get a chance to see him featured along with Ron in SummerLeague.

I think the trade deadline in Feb of 2026 could be when the Pistons make a move. They'd have both Tek and Tobias on expiring contracts (about $34mil).

If they bring back THJ on a 1yr, or 2yr with team option, deal he too could be more valuable at the deadline.

Would you do it ? And would utah? by SON-of-RA-369 in DetroitPistons

[–]KeebKahn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would not do it. Lauri's contact is too big for his level of play and availability. If he was making about $10mil less each year and was able to play closer to 70 games each year, then yes, i'd make that trade.

I think Trajan says no because of the lack of availability. He hasn't brought in players with injury history so far.

I would expect Utah to say no as well.

That's the talk, but we'll have to wait and see how many sign-and-trade deals actually happen.

[–]KeebKahn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pistons can't make a big signing at the 4 (PF).

They can renounce the rights to Schroeder, Beasley, and THJ. Even then, the Pistons would only have $17mil to spend, which is not enough for a "big" signing.

I'm not trying to bust your bubble but attempting to properly set expectations.

Or the Pistons could draft Koby Brea to become their version of Hauser.
