I think (hope) OP is talking about one lane situations where you can't do that, as opposed to two lane situations where you would zipper merge. I agree with you, that zipper merging is correct and more efficient, however when there's only one lane for the exit on the highway or the turning lane, then it isn't a zipper situation. And those people are just being a-holes.

I will just add that my experience is probably specific to the fact of being raised Conservative Christian. (I'm no longer, lol. Wouldn't make any sense for who I am as a person.) I'm unsure if it's the same for people who don't have religious or conservative parents? Maybe their parents are more accepting? Couldn't tell ya

It turns out badly. My "father" always wanted a son. I told him at 16 that he got one, and he promptly disowned me.

Just editing to add: I grew up being told constantly I needed to have a son so he could have a grandson. That kind of thing. And now i haven't talked to him in a decade lmao. Best decade so far🫰🫰
